The women from all three brands will be fighting for Brand Supremacy on Sunday night at Survivor Series, and the NXT team is the new wild card. With the respective champions facing off in a champion triple threat, the rest of each brand’s women’s division is set to go to war – and for some, it’s immediately after a War Games at NXT TakeOver.
Team Raw (Charlotte Flair, Natalya, Asuka, Kairi Sane, Sarah Logan)
When you have someone with the prestige that Charlotte Flair carries captaining your team, you know you could have an advantage. Charlotte is a 10-time women’s champion and will aim to add “survivor” to her long list of accolades. The women who will go to war with her are a stacked and interesting unit. First is Natalya, who has shown in recent weeks that she has good chemistry with the captain which is a good sign for Team Raw, but the same can’t be said with her and the next two women, Asuka and Kairi Sane. They have been in the crosshairs of each other for the past month and this could be bad when it comes down to the actual match.
But what Asuka and Sane offer to this match is championship pedigree and two of the best in the entire company. Them being a team coming into this match is what will help Raw more than anything else, as they are the only team to be in the entire match and only champions as well. And the final member of the match is Sarah Logan who is a welcomed surprise to Team Raw. Logan offers uncertainty but a valuable amount of rage that could leave her as the deciding factor for the red brand. There’s a real chance Raw walks out on top in this one.
Team SmackDown (Sasha Banks, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross)
“The Boss” may have the unproven team behind her, but you know Sasha Banks will not go down without a fight. On SmackDown, she had no problem calling out the surrounding teams but after the fact, it was clear that this team is not on the same page. Banks and Nikki Cross got into each other’s face on SmackDown which will remain something to watch for. Cross earned her opportunity when she pinned Dakota Kai in the SmackDown vs NXT match a couple of weeks ago. Cross brings the crazy factor to the team that is never a bad thing. Following these two semi-rivals are Carmella, Lacey Evans, and Dana Brooke. Carmella had a wasted 2019 for the most part, as most of it was wasted trying to help R-Truth in his chase of the 24/7 Championship.
Look to this match for a chance to Carmella put herself back on track and get off to a good start so she can maybe recapture women’s championship gold in 2020. Lacey Evans had a good first year on top, as she was instantly in the title picture and a thorn in the side of Becky Lynch for much of the summer. Now, she is in a newer role on SmackDown where she hopes to make a name for herself. This could be a coming-out party of sorts for “The Sassy Southern Belle”. And finally, Dana Brooke. Brooke has a lot more fans behind her than you may think, even though she hasn’t seen many opportunities in the past year. This is a huge chance to put herself on the map. Team SmackDown may have uncertainty, but they could shock the world on Sunday night.
Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, Bianca Belair, Candice LeRae & Io Shirai)
Rhea Ripley is on the run of her life at the age of 23 years old. This past week alone she has faced Becky Lynch one-on-one on NXT, pinned Charlotte Flair, and won a WarGames match with just one partner on her side. Sunday night, she has an opportunity to perfect the week as she leads Team NXT’s women’s team into Survivor Series as it’s captain. She made the following selections, all of which will help attempt to help her find victory. Toni Storm will follow her into war which is a pleasant surprise as she had not been seen in any of the battles until SmackDown this past week. Both women have had their fair share of matches with each other, as they traded the NXT United Kingdom Women’s Championship, but clearly have put the past behind them for this match. Storm is one of the best young talents in the company and is going to be a star.
Speaking of stars NXT also has Bianca Belair. Belair was opposing Ripley at NXT TakeOver: WarGames but impressed her enough to be apart of Team NXT. If fans have never seen Belair, prepared to be amazed. The amount of strength and overall athleticism is unmatched by any woman in this match which could help give them an edge on Sunday night. Candice LeRae was on the winning side with Ripley in WarGames at TakeOver, which made this a layup of a selection. If you are looking for toughness and a never give up attitude, LeRae fills the mold. And last but not least, the “Joshi Judas” herself, Io Shirai. The moment Shirai gave up on the fans and having friends, she became one of, if not the, best parts of NXT. The moment Shirai is in the ring with Kairi Sane, expect the crowd to erupt. This team has exactly what it takes to win the whole shebang.
This match is just another to add to must-see bouts at Survivor Series, as this will not disappoint. It’s only a matter of NXT being able to show they are just as good, if not better than their opponents.
