NJPW has an exciting crop of Young Lions getting ready for the big push, including Karl Fredericks, Shota Umino, Clark Connors, and Yuya Uemura. Another future star is 21-year old Ren Narita, who has just been announced for his first US indie match as he heads Stateside to begin his Young Lion excursion. As a tradition for many Young Lions, these young prospects often get sent abroad to work with IWGP Conception allies like Ring of Honor in the US, CMLL in Mexico, or in the UK with RevPro, such as current excursion Young Lion Great O-Kharn, who has been in England just over a year now. It was announced on Wednesday that Ren Narita would be starting his excursion with Indiana’s Black Label Pro this November at Slamilton. Narita joined NJPW trainer Katsuyori Shibata at the New Japan LA Dojo last month at the end of the Young Lions Cup tournament.

Ren Narita made his NJPW debut in a 10-minute time limit draw with Shota Umino at NJPW Lion’s Gate Project7 in the summer of 2017, and has worked many undercards for New Japan shows throughout the past two and half years. He competed in his first Best of the Super Juniors this year, making the semi-finals, and also had a showing in this year’s Young Lions Cup tournament, that was won by Karl Fredericks. While it’s his debut in the US indies, it’s not his American debut. He’s competed at multiple New Japan shows in the US this year, most recently at NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed in Philadelphia, where he faced US indie legend Amazing Red.
The first opponent of his excursion is former 2x Freelance Wrestling World Champion and Midwest veteran Isaias Velazquez, a staple of the vibrant Chicago scene with Freelance, Zelo Pro Wrestling, and Warrior Wrestling, as well as Midwest appearances for Major League Wrestling (MLW), EVOLVE Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) and St. Louis Anarchy, to name a few.
