Uncharted Territory Season 2 Episode 3 Recap (10/17/19)

Uncharted Territory

Last season it took Uncharted Territory a little while to really find it’s groove. While every episode was great there were certainly a few hiccups. This season they started hot and keep getting hotter. The last two shows have been headlined by independent dream matches. David Starr vs Mercedes Martinez was an absolute work of art and just like Eddie Kingston vs Tim Thatcher, it is hard to believe this was the first time they have ever wrestled.

The other theme running through Uncharted Territory is how important it is to win because winning means being able to come back. The very discovered wrestler Tony Deppen has hijacked the Discovery Gauntlet and looked unbeatable in all of his matches, not in hopes he gets discovered but because he just wants to keep coming back and having that payday. Wrestlers from all over the midwest and the south have been flying in to try and beat him but no one has been able to. Lady Frost and Victor Benjamen made their Uncharted Territory debut in an important match because winning meant another appearance at Uncharted Territory.

Uncharted Territory has proved itself as the most important independent show in wrestling. It is easy to watch every week on Independent Wrestling Television. It regularly books absolute dream matches like Kingston vs Thatcher and Starr vs Martinez. Plus once a wrestler gets booked on Uncharted Territory it seems like they have no problem finding other bookings everywhere else.

Team Pazuzu (Chris Dickinson and Pinkie Sanchez)  vs The Butcher and The Blade

What a way to start of the show this match was great and a sign for the rest of the roster that they were going to have to step up there game, which they certainly did. Team Pazuzu make such a great team because they are so different from each other. Pinkie takes a ton of punishment and then tags in Chris Dickinson who unleashes all hell on his opponents. The Butcher and The Blade really gave it their all. At Beyond’s Boston Secret Show Dickinson teamed with Joey Janela as team SLITHER to defeat The Butcher and The Blade. Dickinson was once again successful with a new teammate to defeat The Butcher and the Balde. Parks and Williams have been having a tough time in Beyond as of late as they took big loses to both Rock N Roll Express at Americanrana ‘19 and Team Tremendous at Sodom and Gomorrah. Next week Chris Dickinson and Pinkie Sanchez will both be having solo matches while The Butcher and the Balde will be in a four-way tag team match against Violence is Forever, Team Tremendous and the Ace’s of Beyond Bear Country

Brandon Thurston vs Puf

Uncharted Territory

This was an outstanding star-making performance for both of these two. Brandon Thurston has become one of the most hated men in Beyond after kickings Jay Freddie in the balls. These two also had a tense relationship. Puf filmed a promo where he talked about how he tried to train with Brandon Thurston who blew him off as a joke and refused to train Puf. Puf promised that he would be Thurston and that he would gey Freddie a rematch when he did one. Brandon Thurston worked over Puf’s arm the entire match. Puf gave it his all but Thurston was just too much experience for him to handle Puf ended up tapping because of his arm. Afterward, Brandon Thurston flipped off the fans who were booing him with Puf’s finger. Thurston then called out Jay Freddie who will have their fourth Uncharted Territory which if it is anything like the first two will be a classic.

Anthony Greene and Ava Everett vs Lady Frost and Victor Benjamen

Lady Frost impressed Beyond management so much at King of Trios she got her and her tag partner Victor Bejamen a spot on Uncharted Territory against Beyond regulars Anthony Green and Ava Everett. This match was important because if the debuting team could beat the regulars they would certainly be asked back. While Lady Frost did put on a great performance it wasn’t enough to beat Green and Everett.

Discovery Gauntlet Tony Deppen vs Aj Gray

Uncharted Territory

On any other card on any other night, this match would’ve stolen the show. Aj Gray was coming from the midwest where he holds titles a Black Label Pro and some other promotions. He was looking to make a name for himself by getting a huge win and returning during the Discovery Gauntlet. Aj Gray was impressive and took a majority of the match. He hit a leaping brainbuster that Paul Crockett compared to Bret Hart. He chopped Tony Deppen so hard it looked like Deppen lost part of his soul. Tony Deppen was able to pick up his third win in a row and stay for another week when Aj Gray missed a twisting splash and Deppen hit a shining wizard for the win.

Next week Tony Deppen will take on Joshua Bishop and look to make it 4-0 in his Uncharted Territory run.

Nick Gage vs Kenn Doane with Club Cam

Nick Gage once again had an open challenge inviting anyone from the roster to come out and have a match against him. Kenn Doane and Club Cam came out and Doane accepted the match. Club Cam made their presence known by attacking Gage outside the ring with a chair behind the refs back. Of course, a chair got involved as Gage tossed it over the rope into the ring and cut Doane up bad. All of Club Cam ends up attacking Gage and the match gets tossed out. This quickly leads to the next match where Bear Country came out to save Gage from a 4 on 1 beat down.

Bear Country vs Club Cam (Richard Holiday and Christan Casanova) with Club Cam

This match started quick and moved quick. Bear Country was outmanned by Club Cam and it seemed like Club Cam had a chance to win after Richard Holliday powerbombed Bear Bronson and Christan Casanova hits the Dirty Diana. Bear Beefcake picked up Casanova on the top rope and while Cam distracted the ref Thomas Sharp pushed over Bear who landed on top of Casanova and got the win.

Josh Briggs vs Thomas Sharp with Club Cam

Uncharted Territory

The next match quickly started after this with Thomas Sharp getting a huge big boot. It looked like things were finally going to start going Club Cam’s way. Briggs was able to kick out. These two traded big strikes and it was a match of two very big boys going at it. Josh Briggs ended up winning with a big boot. After the match the rest of Club Cam swarmed the ring and attacked Thomas Sharp.

This stretch was by far the weakest part of the night. Club Cam is supposed to be the big bad guys stable but they looked like dorks here. They lost every single match they were in and blundered their way through half of the show. It looks like this will lead to more stories down the line but I could think of plenty other wrestlers that would have done much more with these spots than Club Cam did.

David Starr vs Mercade Martinez

Uncharted Territory

Finally, with half an hour left in the show, it was time for the main event. Mercedes Martinez is one of the most decorated independent women’s wrestlers. She is the current Shimmer Tag Team Champion along with four other championships. She is a two-time Shimmer Champion, a five-time WxW champion and a three-time WSU Champion. The match started with David Starr bowing down to Mercedes Martinez. This was a match David Starr had always wanted and for 29 minutes they put on one of the best matches of the year. Seriously watch this match. They did everything strike exchanges, submissions, mat wrestling, dives. Just like last week’s main event, this was intricate it was two wrestlers who cared about each other who were made to wrestle each other.  It was an absolute work of art that ended with David Starr getting the win after a huge lariat. If you haven’t seen this match stop reading this and watch it. There is nothing that could be written that will explain how good it is. Easily one of my top five favorite matches of the year.

Starr cut a promo at the end of the match saying how great it was that he got to wrestle Mercedes Martinez. That it was one of his dream matches up there with Quackenbush or Colt Cabana. He told the fans how lucky they were to watch Mercedes Martinez wrestle he was setting his sights on WARHORSE and more importantly the Independent Wrestling Championship. That he could show up at any show to challenge WARHORSE and take the title because he repped the Independents.
