The NXT Recap (10/16/19)
TOMMASO CIAMPA TRIUMPHANT IN RETURN AGAINST GARZA…UNDISPUTED ERA DELIVERS A MESSAGE
After seven months, Tommaso Ciampa returned to a very different NXT landscape. He looked to prove he still belongs against the Breakout Tournament standout Angel Garza, and he looked dominant as ever. While the match was understandably short, Garza was able to hit some of his signature moves including a suicide dive and perform his signature pants spot.
The returning Ciampa pulled out the win with his snap apron DDT to chants of welcome back. The Undisputed Era interrupted Ciampa’s celebration, but oddly they did not attack the former NXT Champion. Instead, they handed a USB drive to the commentary team, before making their way to the back staring Ciampa down the entire way.
After the break it was revealed that the USB drive contained a video of them attacking Velveteen Dream, promising this will happen to anyone who gets in their way.
IMPERIUM PREVAIL IN BATTLE AGAINST BRIT-AM BRAWLERS
Imperium’s Fabian Aichner and Marcel Bartel locked up with NXT’s most underrated team Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. Each team showed exactly why the NXT tag team division is consistently one of the best in the business. The hard-hitting style of the Brawlers meshed excellently with Imperium’s more mat-based style. Aichner in particular impressed between his double springboard moonsault and trading blows with the hard-hitting Lorcan.
Imperium continued to establish their dominance putting away the Brawlers with a Power-bomb/Diving European uppercut combination.
KEITH LEE AND DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC WAR IS PUT ON HOLD WITH ATTACK FROM RODERICK STRONG
Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic continued their war for supremacy, but this time with a shot at the NXT North American Championship on the line. Every time these two men go head to head, it feels like any move will end the match. The best example of this was an insane suplex spot that highlighted Lee’s strength.
Roderick Strong attacked both men causing the no contest, and gleefully thinking he prevented facing either behemoth. William Regal would have none of it and stated Strong would face both men next week.
TEGAN NOX SHINES IN RETURN AGAINST TAYNARA CONTI
Tegan Nox made her anticipated return against Taynara Conti. Relatively short match as the early going was largely Conti using her judo background to keep control of Nox, but Nox was shortly able to get the opportunity to nail the Shiniest Wizard for the win.
Dakota Kai made her way to the ring to celebrate with her friend while she was being interviewed. Sadly NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler made her way to the ring with her fellow Horsewomen Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir. Shayna tried to snuff out any hope of Nox getting a title shot stating she’s running out of limbs, and said to come talk to her when she’s done something impressive.
DAMIAN PRIEST HITS HIS MARK AGAINST PETE DUNNE
Looking to gain revenge on the man who attacked him a few weeks ago, Pete Dunne faced off against “The Archer of Infamy” Damian Priest. These guys easily had the match of the night. Priest was able to show off much more of his arsenal in the main event slot, including an impressive somersault senton to the outside. As usual, Dunne showed a veteran savvy beyond his years, capitalizing on Priests over aggression on a few occasions.
Both men used stiffer strikes than usual it seemed, and late in the stretch had an impressive chain of reversals breaking out of the other’s signature moves. Priest continued his winning ways, delivering a groin kick while the referee’s vision was obscured followed by The Reckoning. The show closed with Priest celebrating his biggest win, while Dunne looked on laying on the mat.
