Ophidian’s Crucible Wins CHIKARA King of Trios 2019

Since forming The Crucible this spring, CHIKARA legend Ophidian has dominated the company with his “anti-invasion force”. This weekend, with two Crucible teams entered, the Ophidian-led trio that also featured former CHIKARA Grand Champion Kimber Lee and newcomer Lance Steel, captured the 2019 King of Trios tournament.

This past may, Ophidian was kicked out of the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory, and the long-time trainer turned on head trainer Mike Quackenbush, revealing he was taking all of his start students –  Matt Makowski, Tunku Amir, Frey Nassar, E.M. DeMorest, Lance Steel, Devantes, and The Whisper – in his own twisted desire to keep CHIKARA strong and true to its core values. And thus, The Crucible was formed.

While not an original member, Princess Kimber Lee has been through a lot since her return to CHIKARA from NXT last year. She was forced to team with The Whisper in the La Loteria Letal in 2018 (a tournament of random tag teams), and the duo ended up taking the tournament. Two months later, the reluctant tag team won the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas (Tag Team titles), holding them for 140-days. She eventually joined her former tag partner in The Crucible, ascending to the right hand of Ophidian.

The Crucible had another victory at King of Trios as well. The Whisper, who was not a part of either KOT trio entry, was entered in the 2019 Rey de Voladors tournament, a sub-tournament held during the three-day festivities of King of Trios. In his four-way elimination match on Saturday, he defeated Danjerhawk and Aussie indie stars Jude London and Mat Diamond of the Velocities to advance to the final on Sunday, where he defeated rising indie star Alex Zayne to win The Crucible the Rey de Voladors tournament (for his second time), and went on to challenge Dasher Hatfield for the CHIKARA Grand Championship.
