On Friday evening, Ring of Honor will go live from Las Vegas, NV as they hold Death Before Dishonor. A show last year that featured the likes of Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay visiting from NJPW and then ROH World Champion Jay Lethal defending in the main event. This year, despite the struggle to bring in an audience at certain times, ROH continues to go forward as they may have put their best card together for this show. Here is the preview.
Jeff Cobb vs. Brody King
The power behind Villain Enterprises is set to take on former ROH Television Champion Jeff Cobb on the free pre=show prior to Death Before Dishonor. Brody King is one of the more underrated stars in Ring of Honor and even wrestling today, as his ability inside the ring is almost unmatched for guys his side. The man opposing him however is Cobb, who is one of the strongest guys in all of pro wrestling. This is a battle of juggernauts as these two men are going to put on a show for the people there live and all those who watch on the preshow. These two men will do something that make your jaw drop as two of ROH’s best.
Anything Goes Bar Room Brawl: The Bouncers (Brian Milonas & Beer City Bruiser) vs Silas Young & Vinny Marseglia
A alliance that many may see as unexpected have the possibilities to be the most vile combo in wrestling right now. Silas Young and The Kingdom‘s Vinny Marseglia team up to take on The Bouncers in a Anything Goes Barroom Brawl which is sure to get out of hand immediately. These four men got to this point of war over the Global Wars Espectacular when Young and Marseglia beat down The Bouncers to the point where blood and pain were the only results. Expect the same here, as this will not be a technical, ROH classic-style match, but instead a downright fight.
Jay Lethal vs. Jonathan Gresham
This one should be fun. Following their match against Silas Young and Josh Woods, the former friends finally came to blows. Jay Lethal had finally seen enough of Jonathan Gresham‘s underhanded ways of trying to achieve victory, resulting in these two going at it. At Death Before Dishonor, this is going to be a fight between former friends as Lethal hopes to knock some sense into Gresham before it is too late. For Gresham, it’s a shot to pick up his biggest win to date. Lethal and Gresham could easily have “match of the night” written all over it.
Final Battle No. 1 Contender Tournament First Round: Kenny King vs PCO
Two completely different beings here in this one. Beings because, well, PCO is certainly not human. Anyways, this is one of two first round match-ups that will take place at Death Before Dishonor. Both Kenny King and PCO have had opportunities in the past year to capture the ROH World Championship, but have not accomplished that just yet. King is no ones favorite, but sometimes you have to admit how good someone can be. And Kenny King is just that good. He has an opportunity to move forward here, but on the other side is PCO who could be the dark horse of the entire tournament. As one of the members of Villain Enterprises, PCO has become the talk of ROH. Can he continue that by putting down King in the first round? Or is the former ROH Television Champion going to have what it takes to stop PCO?
Final Battle No. 1 Contender Tournament First Round: Marty Scurll vs Colt Cabana
When will Marty Scurll get his fair shot at the ROH World Championship? The last time he had an opportunity was at Madison Square Garden in the Triple Threat Ladder Match which saw the current champion come out as victor. The future of Scurll as many know is in question, but “The Villain” will not be stopped in hopes of getting back to the title. Who stands in his way is Ring of Honor veteran and fan-favorite, Colt Cabana. Cabana is a journeyman of sorts, but has always called Ring of Honor home. Since his first match with ROH back in 2002, Cabana still has yet to capture the ROH World Championship despite all his years there. This is a chance for two deserving guys to get that shot, its too bad they have to go through each other.
WOH World Championship: Kelly Klein (c) vs Angelina Love
The Women of Honor division has had its ups and down, but many can admit that Kelly Klein has done a fine job being the head of the division since winning the championship. She takes on The Allure‘s Angelina Love, who many remember from her days in TNA. With Velvet Sky and Mandy Leon lurking, Klein may be way over her head after challenging Love to this match. Fans will have to see come Friday night.
ROH World Television Championship: Shane Taylor (c) vs Tracy Williams vs Flip Gordon
Taylor. Williams. Flip. A Triple Threat bout that will certainly have fans on their feet. Shane Taylor has held the championship since May when he defeated Jeff Cobb. Since then, he has been a dominant champion with no end in sight. Or at least he hoped. Tracy Williams of Lifeblood is one of the more underrated talents in ROH and with this championship opportunity, he can change that. What he must focus on is winning, rather than destroying “The Mercenary” of Villain Enterprises. Flip Gordon is not only looking to represent Villain Enterprises, but to win his first championship as a part of Ring of Honor. The odds are certainly against Taylor which means #AndNEW could be on the horizon in Williams or Gordon as long as they don’t destroy each other.
ROH World Tag Team Championship: The Briscoes (c) vs Bandido & Mark Haskins
The most decorated tag team in the history of ROH is the reigning tag team champions as The Briscoes are set to defend their titles against Lifeblood’s Bandido and Mark Haskins. By now, fans know exactly what The Briscoes are made of as a team, and following their rivalry with The Guerrillas of Destiny, they are possibly even better than before. The 11-time champions are up for a fight however, as Bandido and Mark Haskins remain vastly underrated. Bandido, the reigning BOLA winner, is one of ROH’s most exciting stars for their future. Haskins follows the same road as his Lifeblood family, being underrated but one of the best talents in the company. This is no definite victory for Jay and Mark, as Lifeblood’s finest have a shot to dethrone ROH’s greatest tag team.
ROH World Championship: Matt Taven (c) vs RUSH
Matt Taven defends his ROH World Championship against the undefeated RUSH in the main event. For one of many few times in history, the champion may be the underdog. Taven has carried the ROH World Championship with pride while beating anyone placed in his way of success. He has pinned the likes of Jeff Cobb, Jay Lethal, and Alex Shelley as he attempts to approach 200 days at the top of Ring of Honor. The Kingdom is always in toe, as it’s leader will do anything to hold that championship even longer. However, across the ring from him is one of the biggest and baddest dudes in all of wrestling today. RUSH is undefeated. He has piled up names like former champion Dalton Castle, Bandido, and both members of The Kingdom all in hopes of getting to the ROH World Championship. The clock may be ticking on Taven’s reign.
