Following a rather successful SummerSlam, Raw had plenty of excitement going into it with the thought of a return or a debut happening, as the two nights after SummerSlam have been big ones that past couple of years. This was the third night in Toronto and wanted to continue making a huge bang. That huge bang resulted in two different but exciting occurrences on Raw that will leave the wrestling world a buzz. Here is the rundown.
King of the Ring Announced for Next Week! (w/ full list of competitors)
In a surprising but exciting announcement, the WWE has announced that the King of the Ring will return, with the first matches kicking off on Raw next week. The competitors were announced following Raw, with it being a 16-man Tournament including the best Raw and SmackDown LIVE have to offer. Here are the competitors as there will be a new “King” in the WWE:
Raw: The Miz, Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, Samoa Joe, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, and Cesaro
SmackDown LIVE: Kevin Owens, Ali, Apollo Crews, Chad Gable, Elias, Andrade, Buddy Murphy, and Shelton Benjamin
The OC going for Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins kicked off Monday Night Raw loving the crowd and giving them all the credit for giving him the strength and extra motivation to slay Brock Lesnar once again. The OC made their way out as all the men’s gold on the roster was inside the ring. AJ Styles would challenge Rollins to a match, which would be the main event of the evening. These two would battle each other with Raw closing out, but unfortunately the match would not end cleanly. The OC would ruin the match as they tried to lay out both Rollins and Ricochet who attempted to make the save. As they turned their attention back to Rollins, Braun Strowman made the save for Rollins and fought The OC off to end the night. It is good to see Strowman be involved once again.
Raw MVP: Sasha Banks
After months and months of speculation, “The Boss” is officially back. Sasha Banks made her return to the WWE following her long hiatus. This was the first time Banks has appeared since WrestleMania and it felt like the Raw Women’s Division got the refresher they’ve been looking for since Ronda Rousey’s departure. Sasha came out during Natalya’s promo to the fans discussing her father and her loss at SummerSlam. Toronto would erupt as the “Legit Boss” made her way down to the ring. Banks would hug Natalya before clocking her in the back of the head. She would remove her pink haired wig to reveal her new blue hair color. She would destroy Natalya, going after he knee and introducing a chair.
“The Man” Becky Lynch ran down to the ring to help Natalya fight off Sasha but that would be of no use. Banks would brutalize Becky with a chair, leaving her lifeless. Showing a side of Sasha we have not really seen since her NXT days. This was organic, this was fresh, this was whatever you want to call it. What we will call it is phenomenal and the best thing to happen to the women’s division in months. Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch. Buckle up, this is going to be must-see.
With Sasha Banks back on Raw and the King of the Ring returning next week, Monday Night Raw should make for must-see viewing.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for the SmackDown Rundown. Roman Reigns vs Buddy Murphy is scheduled to take place and should be one hell of a matchup.
