For a special, one time only occurrence, we have combined the highlights from both Raw and SmackDown LIVE as they are the go-home episodes for SummerSlam this Sunday.
Raw Highlights Rundown – Dolph Ziggler is next for Goldberg (8/5/19)
Monday Night Raw was a special one as it was the go home episode for SummerSlam. With a huge tag team match set with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair teaming up to face Trish Stratus and Natalya, it was a huge night. There are finally new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and more destruction of Seth Rollins. Here are the highlights.
Raw Highlight: Andrade And Rey Mysterio Display Another Classic
When will the WWE allow these two to go one-on-one on PPV. Andrade and Rey Mysterio went 15 minutes with some of the best in-ring wrestling you can find on WWE TV all week long. These two have shown in the past they have phenomenal chemistry and have traded match after match. They renewed the rivalry a week ago when Andrade defeated Rey and went on to rip the mask of Mysterio off. Rey would let it be known he would pay this week. With that being said, these two traded blows back and forth before Zelina Vega would finally get involved. She would stun him on the ropes, allowing Andrade to place the Hammerlock DDT onto Mysterio and earn another victory again the masked legend. Go out of your way if possible to see these two go toe-to-toe once again.
Raw Highlight: “The Fiend” Destroys Kurt Angle
Due to Raw being in Pittsburgh, PA, it was a perfect opportunity to allow Kurt Angle to show up for a special appearance. Angle was set to be the special guest referee in a bout between Cedric Alexander and Drew McIntyre. Cedric would be on his way down to the ring when McIntyre would attack him from behind. Kurt would be left in the ring when the lights would begin to go out. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt would appear and put Angle down and out with a Mandible Claw, the same maneuver he used on Mick Foley two weeks ago. Finn Balor may be the only hope to stop “The Fiend”, but do not expect him to be stopped any time soon.
Raw MVP: Goldberg
The end of the show would hold the special Miz TV segment between Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, and Shawn Michaels. Ziggler and Miz were to sign a contract for their match this Sunday at SummerSlam. Ziggler would go on and on about him establishing himself as a living legend when he defeats Miz Sunday. After signing the contract, Miz would inform Ziggler that they would instead battle on Raw next week. Miz and HBK would point at the entrance way as Goldberg would return, making it clear that Dolph Ziggler was next. After his hideous appearance at Super Showdown this year, expect him to prove something come Sunday.
SmackDown Highlights Rundown – Roman Reigns’ Attacker Revealed (8/6/19)
The final show ahead of SummerSlam this Sunday was SmackDown LIVE. It featured Kevin Owens having Shane McMahon on the KO Show, a special Roman Reigns interview, and the Kofi Kingston response to Randy Orton. Let’s take a look at the SmackDown highlights.
Sami Zayn “Fades To Black”
Sami Zayn seems to be lost in the shuffle as of late but reappeared last week to inform Aleister Black he would happily pick a fight with him at SummerSlam. He would show up last night looking for an answer from Black and wondering if he was too scared to face him. Black’s music would hit and before he did his rise, he’d let Zayn know that this match was going to instead happen at that moment. The match would be underway, and before you even knew it the strike heavy style of “The Dutch Destroyer” would finish Zayn off. First with a running V-Trigger styled knee, leading to the Black Mass for another victory for Aleister Black.
Kofi Kingston Answers Randy Orton
As the WWE Championship match approaches at SummerSlam, the rivalry between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton only begins to get more personal. Kingston was up this week with the message to Orton, discussing how after being put down 10 years ago, he is prepared to put down Orton this time around and not let his pull stop him again. It was a perfect build to this match, with Kofi’s last words asking who will be stupid come Sunday. This could be the most real and exciting match on the card this year.
Daniel Bryan And Rowan Revealed As The Guilty Party
SmackDown closed out with Daniel Bryan and Rowan taking on the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The New Day. The match would end when Rowan would smash Xavier Woods with steel steps, allowing the two to beat down the champions. Cameras would cut to the back where Roman Reigns would head into the Men’s Locker Room and would go at Buddy Murphy. He saw the replays everyone else did when Murphy left the scene, which led to Roman getting in his face. Buddy would continue to say he didn’t know and even if he did, he wouldn’t say. Ultimately this would lead to Reigns throwing Murphy around before Murphy revealed it was Rowan. SmackDown LIVE would go off the air watching Bryan and Rowan inside the ring, as the mystery remains unsolved.
Hopefully SmackDown LIVE and Monday Night Raw did all it could to excite fans for the PPV, as there are a handful of great matchups that could steal the show. Make sure to check back all week long for all the SummerSlam weekend pieces you could think of and more.
