Preview: PWA Black Label Presents – Call To Arms 12 (7/27/19)

Call To Arms

Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) returns to Max Watts and OVOPlay streaming this weekend with their 12 year anniversary show. Call To Arms has become a show synonymous with incredible Australian wrestling. In 2017, the show was headlined by the first-ever encounter between Robbie Eagles and Will Ospreay. Then in 2018 the two once again headlined the show for the much-anticipated rematch. This year though PWA has grown so much that they no longer require the presence of any international stars, instead the show is filled with the best talent from around Australia.

Headlining Call To Arms 12 will be a clash between two of the countries most storied factions, TMDK, and the 4 Nations.

In the past, TMDK has boasted stars such as Jonah Rock (now known as Bronson Reed), Elliot Sexton, Mikey Nichols, Shane Haste (now Shane Thorne) and Hartley Jackson as members. These days the group comprises current Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) World Heavyweight & Southern Pro Wrestling (SPW) New Zealand Champion Slex, alongside former Cruiserweight Classic competitor Damian Slater, Marcus Pitt and Mikey Broderick.

Standing across the ring will be the reigning PWA Tag Team Champions Mick Moretti, Jack J. Bonza and their partner Adam Hoffman. This is a trio who just last year made it all the way to the finals of the CHIKARA King Of Trios tournament. Other members of the 4 Nations also include the world-renowned Madison Eagles and current PWWA Champion Jessica Troy.

This will be a clash and show for the ages.

For fans unable to attend Max Watts this Friday PWA will also be live streaming the event via OVOPlay at www.play.ovo.com.au/channel/6940.

The Kelly Gang (Jackson Kelly & Will Kiedis) vs The Babes (Matty Wahlberg & Carter Deams)

Upon their debut, The Kelly Gang made a huge statement by leaving The Velocities laying. Whilst only new the PWA this immediately made The Kelly Gang a force to be feared within the tag team division. This weekend the team of Kelly and Kiedis will look to continue wrecking their way through the tag tam division by taking on another of PWA’s top teams, in the form of The Babes.

Fresh off a dominating performance on Survivor Australia Matty Wahlberg is set to once again join forces with his brother in arms, ‘Worlds Finest’ Carter Deams. These two men talk a lot of trash, but unlike many others, they always back it up inside the ring. Recently though there has appeared to be some tension between Wahlberg and Deams, could this prove to be costly when they take on an extremely difficult opponent in The Kelly Gang?

Sam Osborne vs Robbie Eagles

Since making his debut for PWA ‘The Prize Bull’ Sam Osborne has been on a quest for competition. This weekend Osborne gets his wish when he takes on the newest member of CHAOS, Robbie Eagles at Call To Arms.

Although Osborne talks a big game, his record in prior bouts isn’t looking to flash. Since debuting in February, Osborne has suffered defeats at the hands of The Velocities (Jude London, Mat Diamond & Paris De Silva), Billy Preston, and Matty Wahlberg. Osborne did, however, pick up one victory against Big Fudge at PWA Green Label: Let Them Fight.

For Eagles, the run into this match has been somewhat mixed. In PWA, Eagles defeated Michael Spencer, but upon his return to a New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) ring, Eagles would fail to capture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from Will Ospreay. However, with newfound happiness and confidence after renouncing Bullet Club Eagles should be reinvigorated.

Whilst this clash would appear to be a mismatch at first glance Osborne is a top prospect from the PWA Academy and is there a legitimate threat to Eagles’ championship aspirations. Which man will take a big step upwards on the ladder towards the PWA Heavyweight Championship?

BSCG (Concrete Davidson & Jax Jordan) vs SMS (Unsocial Jordan & Richard South)

Two teams with perhaps the most diametrically opposed philosophies are set to butt heads at Call To Arms. The Black Shirt Cool Group (BSCG) are the renegades, the rebels, the outcasts of PWA who know no limits. The BSCG’s perfectly embodies the soul of PWA Black Label and its adults-only attitude.

Whereas SMS could not be any more opposed to what PWA Black Label stands for. SMS would love to see PWA return to its family-friendly roots, devoid of course language and various other unsavory elements.

Ultimately though, this match hinges on Unsocial Jordan’s treatment of the man formerly known as Ricky but now going by Richard South. Since bringing South into the fold of SMS Jordan has forced him to censure himself and drop his flamboyant side to instead focus on his anger and aggression. Something which the BSCG have said they “have a big fucking problem” with.

Will the PWA faithful “Stand With SMS” or rage against the machine with the BSCG come Saturday night?

Velocities (Jude London & Paris De Silva) vs Michael Spencer & Kai Drake

With the PWA Tag Team Champions preoccupied later in the night with their war against TMDK the number one contenders have had to look elsewhere for some action. In doing so the high-flying Velocities will battle a brand new tag team on the scene.

Two of PWA’s hardest strikers, Michael Spencer and Kai Drake, will combine their forces in the hopes of knocking the Velocities off their perch.

What will happen if this new team can unsettle the Velocities? Would Spencer and Drake then leap from the Velocities in the pecking order?

PWWA Championship 6 Way Match: Bel Pierce vs Steph De Lander vs Shazza McKenzie vs Jessica Troy (c) vs Xena vs Kingsley

After capturing the PWWA Championship last month at All Eyez On Troy the new champion, Jessica Troy, requested that all challengers receive an opportunity.

This Saturday every woman from the PWA Academy will be in action. Which means that former champion Shazza McKenzie will get her rematch. The dominant ‘Python Powerhouse’ Steph De Lander will continue her path of destruction since retiring from injury. The glittery youngster Bel Pierce and the brawler Xena will receive their biggest opportunity to date. And finally Jack J. Bonza’s flag bearer, the diminutive but feisty Kingsley will make her in ring PWA debut.

Perhaps the PWWA Champion wasn’t expecting PWA management to give everyone a shot on her first night out as champion. Should the ‘Arm Collector’ can come out of this contest victorious though she will assert herself as the undisputed force within PWA’s women’s division.

TMDK (Mikey Broderick, Damian Slater & Marcius Pitt) vs 4 Nations (Jack J. Bonza, Mick Moretti & Adam Hoffman)

Ever since TMDK invaded PWA by inducting Mikey Broderick into their ranks the faction has had their sights set on rival faction 4 Nations.

When Broderick was inducted into TMDK he quickly called out the 4 Nations, who at the time was preoccupied with singles glory in the inaugural Colosseum tournament. Since then, however, both groups have fired verbal barbs and forth. Before ultimately culminating in a tag team encounter with Jack J. Bonza & Mick Moretti against Damian Slater & Slex at Once Upon A Time In Max Watt’s. That match would end in a No Contest after the injured Broderick interjected himself before Jessica Troy would even the odds.

With the two warring factions unable to settle the ledger the war of escalation continues this weekend. Each faction will bring three of their best for a six-man tag clash.

Around the country, both groups have been dominant wherever they have set foot. A fact which has seen the rivalry between the two simmer away quietly, slowly building pressure. Eventually, the tension boiled over and set the entire kitchen alight. This weekend PWA management add fuel to the fire in the hopes that the war will burn itself out.

Which faction will prove to be the countries greatest at Call To Arms?
