Pro Wrestling Guerilla celebrates the sixteenth anniversary of the California-based company to present the stacked PWG Sixteen. Fans have witnessed the rise of several independent wrestling talents from Darby Allin to Brody King and they have quickly become regulars in main events around the US since debuting for PWG in 2018. An international showcase is on the card with Lucha Libre being properly represented, showing that tag team wrestling is alive and well. The main event will have gold on the line only LAX and The Rascalz will have to reach for that gold on the top of ladders. Let’s see all that PWG has to offer on July 26 from The Globe Theater in Los Angeles.
Trey Miguel vs Flip Gordon
Trey Miguel is only twenty-four years but he already has nine years experience because of starting in the pro wrestling business as a teenager. Miguel has certainly been noticed a lot more in 2019 as a member of The Rascalz with Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz but Trey has yet to mature to the next stage of his career and land further up the cards. “The Star-Spangled Stunner” and many innovative tools in the arsenal of Flip Gordon could be the difference-maker because Flip Gordon has cooled off in recent months and he could use a reset button in the win-loss category. The momentum aspect has to really motivate both men because they could both use a win to propel them towards title matches. After only four years in wrestling, it’s time for Flip Gordon to use his popularity towards greater things.
Prediction: Flip Gordon wins.
Jungle Boy vs “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela
The son of Luke Perry, Jungle Boy has become an instant sensation for his brand new offense to the floor and for making it look so easy after just starting his career. This has some serious potential to turn some heads from fans that aren’t too interested in either competitor because of the risks they take. This is a rematch from Joey Janela’s Spring Break 2 this year during WrestleMania weekend. Janela always has the ability to give the fans what they paid for and maybe Jungle Boy is made into a bigger star overnight than when he came in after a victory. Janela likes to take it hardcore and that usually ends up blowing up in his face at the wrong times and Jungle Boy will capitalize.
Prediction: Jungle Boy wins.
The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) vs Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Baretta)
The Dark Order are formerly Super Smash Bros and they have competed in some of the best matches in PWG history so it’s only fitting they are invited back for a big tag team match at PWG Sixteen. This match is a long time coming and The Dark Order will bring the fight to the veterans. Best Friends have been favorites in PWG for several years as both singles acts and as a charismatic tag team but they have never faced the ultimate heel all-rounders in PWG territory. When it comes to wild tag team combinations it doesn’t get any more exciting than Evil Uno and Stu Grayson. Even if PWG fans will be fully backing the former PWG world champion, Chuckie T and Trent, the rebirth of The Dark Order will be looking for the PWG tag team championship. The Dark Order has not held the PWG tag team title since 2012 due to the last couple of years spent in Canada.
Prediction: The Dark Order wins.
MJF vs Darby Allin
This match could potentially be the surprise show-stealer of the night and fans have warmed up to Allin so much that he doesn’t have to do the ultra dangerous dives that he does but he still does to pull out all the stops. It’s that kind of willingness to put his body on the line though that will give MJF all the intensity he needs to weaken Darby into submission. Both young athletes employ a Fujiwara Armbar, which should make for some interesting scenarios and it’s hard to say who has the bigger upside. MJF is the playboy with a scarf that you love to hate and that’s just how he wants it, wins come by any means necessary.
Prediction: Maxwell Jacob Friedman wins.
Black Taurus, Laredo Kid & Puma King vs Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus
All of the Lucha! Black Taurus is making his PWG debut in this match so let’s see how well the fans receive him in the mix with the likes of the super-popular Bandido. It was almost one year ago when Bandido made it to the finals of the PWG Battle Of Los Angeles tournament that was won by Jeff Cobb but it set Bandido up for much bigger things and a contract offer to Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH) which he accepted. Flamita and Rey Horus wrestle all around the world whereas Puma King is very fresh to North American fans after on a couple of previous hot PWG encounters. This being Black Taurus’ debut should mean his team has that extra edge but it’s going to be an uphill climb against the young trio of Bandido and company.
Prediction: Bandido, Flamita and Rey Horus win.
“The Product” David Starr vs Brody King
“The Product” consistently puts on a fantastic performance in every company he goes around the world but he also gets more fans along the way and it’s no different in PWG. David Starr battled Joey Janela in last year’s Battle Of Los Angeles tournament, a rivalry that still hasn’t been settled to this day but Starr keeps heading towards the top of the cards based on big wins. Brody King is going to look to dominate the match but Starr has all of the tools to wrestle all night long. King has had the best matches of his career so far in PWG, King is just the hardcore savage brawler that PWG needs right now. Starr has all of the experience but King has everything to gain by winning.
Prediction: Brody King wins.
PWG Tag Team Championship Ladder Match: The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) (c) vs. LAX (Santana and Ortiz)
The main event gets some serious high-risk aspects added to the fold with ladders being involved. LAX are in the running for being named the tag team of 2019 and this feud with The Rascalz have shown that Santana and Ortiz can keep winning against all odds and against any style. Santana is in big trouble after suffering an injury at Impact Wrestling Slammiversary so let’s see how intense the action can be with that injury involved. LAX just competed this year in a ladder match against The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr and Rey Fenix) so they will know exactly how to bring the violence but The Rascalz come from Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) where the gore is at the forefront. The Rascalz have so many moves where they can launch each other into their opponents so who knows how far the challengers will take risks off of ladders to become champions.
Prediction: The Rascalz retains and remains PWG tag team champions.
