Preview: WSW – Zero Fear, Night 3: Sydney (6/23/19)

This weekend a swath of international wrestling stars from IMPACT, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Ring Of Honor (ROH) descend upon Australia to mix it up with the best our country has to offer. The last stop of the tour is Zero Fear Sydney!

The Velocities (Jude London & Mat Diamond) vs Flippin’ Machines (Flip Gordon & Brian Cage)

Last year The Velocities, although in a different combination, were given an opportunity to showcase their talents on a WSW card against the Mexa-Bloods (Bandido & Flamita). Obviously during that match not only did they wow the audience but they also impressed WSW management enough to be given another opportunity this year.

This year the combination of Jude London and Mat Diamond will have the chance to square off with the Flippin’ Machines. As mentioned in our tour night two preview article should the Flippin’ Machines be successful in their two previous night’s matches, this could be a championship opportunity for The Velocities.

Look for this one to be contested at lightning pace with plenty of gravity-defying action.

Mick Moretti vs Brody King

In a first time ever encounter ROH/NJPW star Brody King is set to take on ‘The Rapscallion’ Mick Moretti.

In chatting with both men this is a match with they have both wanted since Brody first ventured down under to WSW.

The contrasting styles of both men make this one of the most compelling matches on the card. Moretti loves to play mind games with his opponents but King typically wants nothing to do with any kind of extra-curricular shenanigans.

Will King overcome the wackiness of ‘The Rapscallion’ or will he fall into a devious trap?

Jordynne Grace vs Jessica Troy

Jordynne Grace will continue to be a fighting champion as she accepts challenges from the cream of the Australian crop. On Sunday in Sydney, she will take on the newly crowned PWWA Champion ‘The Destroyer’ Jessica Troy.

Just last weekend Troy was able to complete her quest towards Pro Wrestling Australia (PWA) gold by defeating ‘Heartcore’ Shazza McKenzie. This Sunday she will be looking to once again use her devastating Fujiwara armbar to capture even more championship gold. In order to do so, the submission specialist will need to overcome the power of current WSW Women’s Champion Jordynne Grace, a feat which will by no means be easy.

Jeff Cobb vs Jack J. Bonza

The former Olympian Jeff Cobb will take on one of Australia’s most technically proficient professional wrestlers in the form of Jack J. Bonza this Sunday. This is yet another match which the Australian vocally called for over social media, and his request has been granted. Although Bonza may come to regret getting what he wished for.

Whilst these two men are obviously incredibly technically sound neither man is afraid to trade heavy handed blows when needed. So this match could very easily go one of two ways. It could become a ground-based grappling spectacle or it could just as easily become a slugfest where only the strongest is left standing.

No Disqualification: Joey Janela vs Joey Ryan

It’s a battle of the Joey’s with no limits at Zero Fear Sydney!

The No DQ would seemingly favour Janela quite heavily. However, Ryan has been known to do some very underhanded and dirty, or should we say sleazy, things in the past so he could surprise us here.

Honestly, it is hard to know what could happen in this one. Given Janela’s long history in deathmatch situations, I’m certain he has many insane ideas and contraptions at his disposal. From the perspective of Ryan, his past matches in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) teaming with Candice LeRae have given him experience using LEGO, thumbtacks, ladders, chairs and blow pops.

All we can say with certainty, this will be entertaining!

Robbie Eagles vs Fenix

Originally this was slated to be a triple threat match, also featuring Rich Swann. However, due to travel issues, Swann has been unable to make it to Australia. So in all likelihood, this will become a straight up singles match between Mexico’s Fenix and Sydney’s hometown hero Robbie Eagles.

These two incredible junior heavyweights are at the peak of the industry in their respective nations. Not to mention they’re now breaking out globally, Eagles with New Japan Pro Wrestling and Fenix with All Elite Wrestling.

Both men are known innovators and high-flyers, so you’re going to be in the danger zone if you’re sitting in the first few rows. I’d suggest being prepared to run from danger at all times. Expect an incredibly high paced, high-flying encounter as each man looks to prove they are the best junior heavyweight competitor, not just on the WSW roster but in the world.

Pentagon Jr vs Marty Scurll

The main event for Sunday could be the main event for any company anywhere in the world, whether it be ROH, AEW, AAA or NJPW. But no, we get it here in Australia at WSW Zero Fear Sydney.

These two men are arguably two of the hottest talents in the entire world right now. Pentagon Jr having just recaptured the AAA Tag Team Championship from The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) and coming off an incredible match at AEW Double Or Nothing. Similarly, Scurll is fresh off a highly successful tour of Japan where he competed in the NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors 26. Earlier this year Scurll also had a fantastic match, despite falling short, for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Championship against Nick Aldis.

With to supreme talents stepping into the ring together, fans in attendance should be expecting greatness. You may even witness a Match Of The Year candidate live before your very eyes!
