At this past Sunday’s tapings of Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) Fight Club – with the show titled I Ain’t Yer Pal, Dickface! – Lionheart and Alexander Dean went head to head in one of the most anticipated matches in recent ICW memory. A special stipulation here was that both men had championships up for grabs in a special Winner Takes All Match – Lionheart’s ICW World Heavyweight Championship, and Dean’s Union of European Wrestling Alliances (UEWA) European Heavyweight Championship. When it all boiled down, it would be Lionheart who was crowned a double champion.
Lionheart Becomes Double Champion
2018 was certainly the rise of Lionheart, with three huge matches against arch-rival Jackie Polo at Barramania 4 last April, Shug’s Hoose Party 5 – Night 1 last July, and Fear & Loathing 11 last December, with the last of those seeing Lionheart capture the World Heavyweight Championship. Since then, he’s vowed to only defend the championship against world-class talent – from Shigehiro Irie to Jody Fleisch to Angelico, it’s become crystal clear that he’s lived by this statement. Even though Alexander Dean may not be as well known as those names, he too has been rising up the ranks in his home promotion of Phoenix Wrestling in Ireland as a member of The Resurgence. He captured the European Heavyweight Championship in May from Erik Isaksen, a title that has previously been held by the likes of Drew McIntyre, Rampage Brown, and Mikey Whiplash. His reign may have not been the longest, but it’s clearly drawn more eyes to him, thanks in part to the match with Lionheart in ICW.
Leading up to this match, both men delivered incredible promos on social media. While the Scottish wrestling scene knew how good a talker Lionheart is, many perhaps weren’t aware of how good Alexander Dean is. Your dear writer here certainly didn’t know much of him, and now is left wanting more. Although the match has yet to be released on ICW On Demand, fans who were there were sending in rave reviews on Twitter – judging by what others had to say, it sounds like this will be one to watch once it’s released to the public.
