PWG SIXTEEN Line Up Announcements…And It’s Amazing

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla PWG

On Friday night, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) revealed a slew of matches for their upcoming PWG SIXTEEN event on July 26, 2019, in Los Angeles, with tickets going on sale on Thursday, June 20 at 8 pm PDT (6 pm EST). Starting in 2010 with PWG SEVEN, PWG has done an annual “numbered” supershow. They’ve always showcased the top emerging and veteran indie stars, but this may be their biggest card yet in terms of names with mainstream (or gaining mainstream) attention. Thanks to their almost Switzerland approach of not playing sides in all the alliance shiftings, PWG SIXTEEN features a Supercard featuring some great talent from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and several other top indie stars.

Here’s a quick look at the full card revealed on Friday:

  • Flip Gordon vs. Trey Miguel
  • The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson – formerly Super Smash Bros.) vs. Best Friends (Trent? & Chucky T)
  • MJF vs. Darby Allin
  • Black Taurus, Laredo Kid & Puma King vs. Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus
  • Jungle Boy vs. Joey Janela
  • Brody King vs. David Starr
  • PWG World Tag Team Championship: The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) vs. LAX (Santana & Ortiz)

PWG has long stuck to a format of not airing their events live, or even on a streaming service. They sell DVDs and VOD instead. But if there was ever a card that they should debut on PPV for, it would be this one. Not suggesting Double or Nothing pricing, but they could easily compete with other wrestling promotions on Fite.tv. Even if it was only one show a year. To many wrestling fans who don’t collect DVDs or subscribe to Highspots Network, PWG remains a promotion of myth and legend. Getting one show out a year would be a great way to lure in new fans to appreciate PWG’s intentional intimacy, online as well as in person.
