New Japan’s second-biggest single event of the year, NJPW Dominion, went down on Sunday night in Osaka, Japan, and the event had its share of surprises, including the announcement of KENTA heading to NJPW, and he, Jon Moxley and Shingo Takagi entering the 2019 G1 Climax Series. But the night also saw three huge title changes take place.
#AndNEW: Tomohiro Ishii Wins NEVER Openweight Championship
CHAOS‘ “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii outlasted TAICHI to win his fifth NEVER Openweight Championship, making him the most decorated NEVER Openweight Champion in the title’s seven-year history. Ishii was previously tied at four reigns with fellow CHAOS member Hirooki Goto heading into NJPW Dominion.
#AndNEW: Will Ospreay Wins IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship
Days after winning Best of the Super Juniors 26, Will Ospreay regained the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, defeating Dragon Lee in another spectacle at NJPW Dominion. It marks Ospreay’s third reign as Junior Heavyweight Champion, tying him with Prince Devitt (WWE’s Finn Balor) for the most title wins by a gaijin.
#AndNEW: Tetsuya Naito Wins IWGP Intercontinental Championship
Tetsuya Naito and Kota Ibushi‘s rivalry took another turn as Naito finally halted Ibushi’s win streak against him by reclaiming the title he lost back in April at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden. With his fourth title win, Naito is now one behind Shinsuke Nakamura‘s five reigns as the most decorated Intercontinental Champion in New Japan history.
