SmackDown LIVE Highlight Rundown – Goldberg Returns (6/4/19)

SmackDown LIVE Highlight

With Goldberg’s first appearance ever on SmackDown LIVE as the centerpiece of the hype going into SmackDown, there was hope for a good show. Along with that, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were scheduled to face Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. Two points that should allow SmackDown LIVE to be a good show once again. Here are the SmackDown LIVE highlights.

SmackDown LIVE Highlight: It Should Have Been Dolph Ziggler, Clearly

To kick off SmackDown LIVE, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston took to the ring along with fellow New Day member Xavier Woods to discuss his past week in his home of Ghana, West Africa. Following the video package, Kingston’s WWE Super Showdown opponent Dolph Ziggler would make his way down to the ring and make it clear once again that it should have been him. Kofi would bring up how Dolph has had plenty of moments in the WWE and he was apart of plenty of those. Kingston would make the point that it truly could have been, but like always, Ziggler quit which is why it was not him. It would shut down Dolph as he wouldn’t speak another word. He would then point to the titantron to show him beating down the champion in the past few weeks.

Following a successful victory for Kingston and Woods over Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, Ziggler would attack Kofi from behind. He would leave both New Day members laying as he stood tall over his opponent this Friday. Dolph has done all he can to hype up this matchup as he looks to finally win the WWE Championship by ending the Kofi Kingston fairytale.

SmackDown LIVE Highlight: R-Truth Loses and Wins the 24/7 Championship

Shane McMahon called R-Truth to inform him he would defend the championship against Elias in a sanctioned, lumberjack match. Doing so, Elias would win his second 24/7 Championship following a big knee to the face of Truth. Following the match, the lumberjacks would get into the ring and begin brawling as they looked to become the champion. Elias would sneak out to where he would meet with Truth again. They would crawl underneath the ring and the bell would ring. R-Truth would win back his 24/7 Championship to become a four timer. Thankfully, R-Truth can continue to entertain the masses as the champion. Who knows where the next challenger may attack the champion now that a golf course has come into play.

SmackDown LIVE Highlight: Alexa Bliss Returns to Action and Becomes a Contender

Alexa Bliss would travel over from Monday Night Raw as a part of the dreaded “Wild Card Rule” to host a special “Moment of Bliss” with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley. She would not really care for what Bayley had to say as all she would look for was her coffee and an opportunity at Bayley at WWE Stomping Grounds. That would then be answered by Carmella and Charlotte Flair, who would also hope for opportunities. Charlotte would inform them that the three would compete in a Triple Threat match to decide who faces Bayley for the title.

Alexa Bliss vs Carmella vs Charlotte Flair

Somehow, again a Raw star would get an opportunity to possibly challenge for a SmackDown championship. And that is exactly what Alexa Bliss would manage to do. Following a Superkick on Charlotte Flair to eliminate her from the matchup, Carmella looked to take out Alexa and become the contender. Instead, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose would drag down Carmella, allowing Alexa to hit her with a DDT to win the match and becoming the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WWE Stomping Grounds. Because for some reason, Ember Moon and Liv Morgan can’t even get a chance to earn an opportunity while a Raw star can.

SmackDown LIVE Highlight: Goldberg is BACK

Announced last week was that Goldberg would return to WWE television this week to discuss his upcoming “Dream Match” with the Undertaker. It was difficult to know what to expect by the two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and former Universal Champion, however Goldberg looked phenomenal. All jacked up and ready to go, the Goldberg of old was there to make it be known that version that won 173 straight matches in WCW will be at Super Showdown to defeat the Undertaker.

While it understandably upsets people why this match is taking place, Goldberg’s true goals of being a hero for children continues to be truthful. We would see the second ever stare down between the two as the Undertaker appeared in the ring and Goldberg was ready to go right there and then. Many may not be watching WWE Super Showdown, but hopefully Goldberg can mirror the efforts he had in his match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33.

There really is not an MVP this week because it was a tough show overall. Aleister Black had yet another scathing promo as he looks to knock someone’s head off sooner rather than later which was something notable but will not mean much until he reappears. WWE Super Showdown is this Friday at 2 pm EST as we look to move past this and on to WWE Stomping Grounds.
