NXT UK Women’s Championship To Be Defended In ICW

As a continuation of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)‘s relationship with the Scotland-based Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), it has been revealed that the NXT UK Women’s Championship will be defended at ICW’s upcoming Shug’s Hoose Party 6 event at the end of July. The match will take place on night two of the weekender, July 28th, at the O2 Academy in Glasgow.

Originally announced as a regular singles bout between the inaugural ICW Women’s World Champion Viper and current NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm, The Vixen of Violence (otherwise known in WWE’s UK division as Piper Niven) demanded Storm put her title up for grabs at ICW’s biggest weekend of the summer. Seeing as both women are without a doubt two of the best to ever grace the UK scene, the announcement was made that Viper’s demands would be met and that Toni’s title would indeed be on the line.

The NXT UK Women’s Championship was introduced towards the end of 2018 following the launch of the weekly NXT UK show on the WWE Network. Rhea Ripley defeated Toni Storm in the tournament finals to become the first champion, eventually losing the gold to Toni at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool this past January. She has since retained the title against the likes of Jinny, Nina Samuels, and Bianca Belair, amongst others.

Shug’s Hoose Party is no stranger to having WWE championships defended on them. Pete Dunne put the United Kingdom Championship on the line at the 2017 event against BT Gunn, Wolfgang, and British Strong Style brethren Trent Seven in a phenomenal fatal four way match. With the NXT UK Women’s Championship now being defended this year, one has to wonder if the NXT UK Tag Team Championships (currently held by The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake)) will be defended in ICW further down the line. Only time will tell.
