Preview: Shine Wrestling – Shine 58 (5/10/19)

Shine Wrestling returns on May 10th, this time from just outside of Detroit, Michigan! The action goes down as part of a double-header with EVOLVE 127 at the Monaghan Knights of Columbus Hall in Livonia, MI. Bell time is scheduled for 3:00 PM with eight high-quality matches like only Shine can put on! Let’s get down to what Shine 58 has in store.

Marti Belle vs. Lindsay Snow

Marti Belle is a ten-year veteran, a trainee of the legendary Johnny Rodz. Perhaps best known for her work in IMPACT Wrestling, where she spent time as part of The Dollhouse. She’s also been a regular for the New York Wrestling Connection. There she is a two-time Starlet Champion. She’s also held gold in Women Superstars United (WSU) and Shine. Teaming with Jayme Jameson as BTY, they were Shine Tag Team Champions. They lost the titles at Shine 39 to Santana and Raquel. Now she’s set to return at Shine 58, along with her opponent, Lindsay Snow. Snow, a Florida native, was trained by Jay Lethal. She only appeared a handful of times for Shine in the past, at volumes 39, 41 and 42. Snow has yet to record a victory in Shine, so winning will be on her mind. Lindsay is a regular for Full Throttle Pro Wrestling.

Kimber Lee vs. Santana w/Rainbow Bright

This will be the first time these two have had a singles contest together in about six years. They faced off for Absolute Intense Wrestling back in 2013. In Shine, they’ve only ever been apart of one match together, in which they were on the same team. They also crossed paths in an NXT Women’s Championship match qualifying battle royal in 2017. Kimber’s return to Shine at volume 50 has been her only victory thus far in the promotion. She defeated LuFisto by disqualification. Kimber Lee will have her mind set on getting back on the winning side of the scoreboard.

She’ll have to be careful though and keep an eye on Santana’s besties, Rainbow Bright. This heel turn by the Midwest Sweetheart was unexpected coming out of her feud with Priscilla Kelly. Kelly had warned everyone in Shine, including the fans, that Santana was not what she appeared to be. It has turned out to be true, as now Santana will take shortcuts and use assistance wherever she can get it. At Shine 58, the deck is very much stacked against the groundbreaking Kimber Lee.

Ivelisse vs. Natalia Markova

In a first-time encounter, we see the Russian Crush Natalia Markova returning to Shine. She will be taking on La Sicaria, Ivelisse. Ivelisse, who is enjoying newfound freedom after being granted release from her Lucha Underground contract. She was unsuccessful in challenging for the Shine Championship against Allysin Kay. However, with her win at Shine 57 in a four-way match involving Mercedes Martinez, Priscilla Kelly, and Su Yung, another win could very well put her back in the title picture.

This will be Natalia’s return to Shine, as we last saw her at Shine 51. Since then, she’s been busy honing her craft internationally. She’s worked with PROGRESS Wrestling in their recent US tour and toured in Japan with Marvelous. Natalia also worked shows in Finland and Austria, while also working for independent companies like Fight the World Wrestling and American Combat Wrestling.

Allysin Kay vs. Samantha Heights

Samantha Heights will be making her debut at Shine 58! One-half of the Sinister Sweethearts with Brittany Blake, Heights is an Ohio native trained by the Crists. Samantha works regularly for companies such as SHIMMER, RISE, Pro Wrestling RevolverBlack Label Pro and Rockstar Pro. She’s also worked for companies outside that area such as Femme Fatales and Border City Wrestling in Canada. Heights is also the current reigning Heart of SHIMMER champion, having recently defeated Dust for it. Allysin Kay has been on a mission to regain her Shine Championship from Miyu Yamashita. Recently successful in a brief excursion to Japan, Kay regained her precious belt. Will Kay be able to focus on the opponent in front of her, or will her mind still be in Japan?

Mercedes Martinez vs. Su Yung

It’s interesting to see there haven’t been more meetings between these two pillars of women’s wrestling. They’ve been involved in a grand total of four matches together, only two were single’s contests. And in both, Mercedes Martinez has triumphed over the Undead Bride. Their last singles match was over five years ago, back at Shine 16. Each has evolved and grown as both wrestlers and characters since then. Martinez is a former multi-time WSU World and Tag Team Champion, as well as former Shine Tag Team Champion. Su Yung is a former IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion and current Queens of Combat Champion.

Brandi Lauren vs. Thunderkitty

Despite her win-loss record in Shine and the WWN Live family, Brandi Lauren is always confident. She’s the current Fight the World Wrestling Ladies Champion. A former IMPACT Wrestling Knockout trained by Jay Lethal, she is still very young, and her full potential is yet to be realized. And as evidenced by the video below, she doesn’t take her opponent very seriously. Thunderkitty is a Shine original and is making her return to the promotion. Her last appearance was at Shine 37 in an I Quit match with the legendary Malia Hosaka. She hasn’t been resting on her laurels though in her time away. The throwback to a bygone area of women’s wrestling has been quite busy. Thunderkitty can be seen in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Girl Fight, IWA Mid-South, and SHIMMER.

Shine Tag Team Championship Match: Rainbow Bright (c) vs. Twisted Sisterz

This will be the Twisted Sisterz second opportunity at regaining the Shine Tag Team Championships. This is being viewed as a sort of “do-over”, as the last match between the two teams ended via count out. Rainbow Bright was perfectly content with the outcome from Shine 57. After all, they still retained their titles despite losing the match. They are, however, very excited about the fact that their bestie Santana will be in their corner at ringside. WWN Live management has also made this match a lumber-jill match. This means that other members of the Shine roster will surround the ring and hopefully curb any shenanigans. Will Shine 58 be the Twisted Sisterz last shot? Find out on May 10th in Livonia!

Shine Nova Championship: Aja Perera w/ Ayla (c) vs. Shotzi Blackheart

Finally, Aja Perera has a Shine Nova Championship defense against someone not affiliated with the Cutie Pie Club. The team of Aja, Aerial Monroe, and their manager Ayla cunningly crafted a plan to rid Shine of the Cutie Pie Club. At least for 90 days. And at Shine 57, their ultimate dream became a reality. WWN management has selected the ballsy badass, Shotzi Blackheart as Perera’s next challenger. Blackheart has put together a couple of victories as of late which makes her an ideal candidate for a shot. Neither of these two have ever faced off before, which means this match will be extra special.

If you can’t make it out to Livonia on May 10th to check out all of this incredible action in person, don’t worry! WWN has you covered!! You can order the event via WWNLive.com or Fite.TV; or as part of the monthly ClubWWN subscription.
