IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada just finished his title defense against SANADA on night two of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku, when he found out his next opponent. A video aired on the big screens revealing that Chris Jericho was not only returning to New Japan at NJPW Dominion on June 5, but that he’s gunning for Okada’s IWGP Heavyweight title.
Chris Jericho Challenges Okada for IWGP Title at NJPW Dominion
Okada looked around nervously as if Jericho was going to attack him – as Jericho has done to Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito and EVIL in the past – but luckily for him, Jericho was in the US. Macon, Georgia to be exact, as he crashed an indie show at Southern Honor Wrestling that resulted in him facing down his All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Double or Nothing opponent, Kenny Omega.
While Chris Jericho is signed with AEW, he and Omega have special clauses that allow them to work limited dates for NJPW still, despite AEW and NJPW not having any official alliance at present.
