For months at the end of 2018, the tag team of Sasha Banks and Bayley – affectionately dubbed the Boss N’ Hug Connection – fought for a women’s tag team division, pairing together to show that a division was worthy in today’s WWE climate. This past February, the titles became reality, as Bayley and Banks defeated Carmella & Noami, Fire & Desire (Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville), Nia Jax & Tamina, The Iiconics (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce) and Riott Squad‘s Sarah Logan & Liv Morgan to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
WrestleMania 35 Preview: Women’s Tag Team Championship
While the field has separated somewhat, on Sunday night the Boss N’ Hug Connection puts their titles on the line on the Grandest Stage of Them All, in a Fatal Four Way match featuring four strong units. Starting off with their strongest rivals to date, Nia Jax and her cousin Tamina Snuka have been pairing for months now, using their familial bond to watch each other’s backs to become the powerhouse tandem of the women’s tag team division. Nia and Tamina lost their previous attempt to win the titles at Fastlane in March but will get another opportunity come Sunday night.
Australia’s Iiconics will represent SmackDown Live in the matchup, as the two best friends will try to muster the same dominance they showed in NXT for years prior to their move to the Blue Brand last year. These two are veterans of the Aussie indie scene (Royce was trained by Lance Storm) and have yet to truly show what they’re capable of in the SmackDown ring, but Sunday will be their biggest opportunity in the WWE Universe to date.
The final team in the battle weren’t even a unit a few months ago, although they have a long history together. Natalya came to the aid of her former Divas of Doom partner Beth Phoenix, who was on commentary for the women’s tag team title match at Fastlane. During the final moments, Nia Jax and Tamina got physical with Beth, resulting in Natalya running down from backstage to make the save. With a new fire in her belly, Phoenix came out of retirement and looks to add WWE Tag Team titles to her trophy case.
