#AndNEW: WALTER Lifts WWE United Kingdom Championship

WALTER

At tonight’s NXT TakeOver: New York show, Pete Dunne‘s 685 day reign with the WWE United Kingdom Championship came to a crashing end as NXT UK newcomer WALTER dethroned the British Strong Style member after an instant classic.

The Bruiserweight won the championship in May 2017 from Tyler Bate and in the almost two years that have followed, he’s successfully defended against the likes of Johnny Gargano, Trent Seven, and 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament winner Zack Gibson. There was seemingly no-one who could put an end to Pete’s success. That was, until NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool this past January.

Following a defence against Gallus’ Joe Coffey, Pete was confronted by the debuting WALTER. It didn’t take long for the pair to have a match made for the WrestleMania weekend NXT TakeOver and as expected, it was one of the best matches of the night, which says plenty when it comes to a TakeOver. Dunne could’ve had the match won on several occasions, even nailing a Bitter End on the larger man but eventually, a top rope Golden Bomb and a huge diving splash ended his reign at 685 days.

With WALTER now reigning supreme over NXT UK, it looks like we could be in line for another lengthy championship reign.
