Samuel Shaw has been wrestling since 2007, starting out in the Florida indie circuit. By the end of the 2000s, he was an emerging star with Vintage Wrestling, where he was a 3x Vintage Heavyweight Champion. In 2012, he debuted with IMPACT Wrestling but his three years with the company were full of stops and starts and he never quite gained any momentum.
He returned to the Florida indies and beyond in late 2015 and worked his way through other territories, working with FIST Wrestling in Florida and Tried-N-True Wrestling in Tennessee. In late 2018, he began working with the revamped National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), around the time it was rumored Shaw was WWE bound.
