Impact Championship Wrestling (ICW New York) is a New York City-based indie promotion that has been running since 2001. An early stomping ground for the likes of Low Ki, Samoa Joe and Amazing Red, ICW New York went on a bit of a hiatus in 2016, before returning in March of last year with Rebirth. Since then, they’ve become another strong force in the New York indie scene. On Thursday night they made a huge announcement for a singles match, pitting one of the undeniable madmen of the 1980s and 1990s, “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner against the undisputed King of American hardcore, Nick Gage, for their February event Party and Bullshit.

While Steiner may not be as athletic as his glory days as part of the Steiner Brothers tag team, he’s still a monster in the ring and time will tell how he reacts to being in a ring with a man as vicious as Nick F’N Gage. Gage had a deathmatch with David Arquette last year that resulted in Arquette shooting on Gage after a nasty cut, that didn’t end quite so well for the Hollywood actor. But someone like Steiner is a different beast altogether. A match that no one saw coming, it could be one of 2019’s most intriguing match announcements so far just for the unpredictability of the two combatants involved.
