Shine Wrestling returns to Ybor City, FL on November 2nd with Shine 54. This volume will see the return of LuFisto. She had to vacate the Shine Championship back in June due to health issues. LuFisto holds the record for the longest reign in Shine history at 529 days. Now she’s returning with no title on her shoulder, and Allysin Kay is queen. There are also title matches for both the Shine Nova and Shine Tag Team Championships.
Su Yung vs. Stormie Lee
First up we have the Undead Bride taking on Stormie Lee. As different as these two wrestlers are, they do have one similarity. Both are used to dominating their opponent. It will be interesting to see who controls this contest. Stormie Lee has been on a bit of a losing streak. Her most recent win was at Shine 50. If she would like to challenge for the Shine Nova or the Shine Championship, she needs to turn the momentum around. The former Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion has been on a phenomenal high in 2018. Su Yung wasn’t at Shine 53, but she was successful in her last outing at Shine 52. Shine 52 was also in Ybor City. Su hasn’t lost in Ybor City since Shine 37. Will the Undead Bride’s luck in Ybor City continue? Or will Stormie Lee finally get some forward momentum?
Santana Garrett vs. Priscilla Kelly
This next match is a grudge match. The problems between Santana and Priscilla Kelly go way back in Shine history. It all started at Shine 46 when they clashed over the Shine Nova Championship, then held by Kelly. Since then, both women have become entangled with the Cutie Pie Club as well. Candy Cartwright defeated Priscilla for the Shine Nova Championship at Shine 49.
Santana challenged Candy at Shine 51, but the rest of the Cutie Pie Club also made their presence felt. Priscilla came out to even the odds for Santana, but it was to no avail. Kelly’s assistance backfired. This reignited the feud between Santana and Kelly, and due to their pull-apart brawl, both were banned from Shine 52. The raven-haired beauties clashed at Shine 53 in the Shine Championship tournament, which saw Santana advance.
Both women have been very busy outside of Shine. Santana is wrestling’s “wonder woman.” She has been in Impact Wrestling as Brittany, starring in Women of Wrestling (WOW) and touring across the country. Priscilla has also raised her profile, having participated in WWE’s Mae Young Classic. She is also an enduring figure in other WWN Family promotions such as EVOLVE and Full Impact Pro (FIP). Now they will write their next chapter in Shine history in Ybor City.
Shine Nova Championship Match: Candy Cartwright (c) vs. Aja Perera
Next, we have the Shine Nova Championship match. Candy Cartwright, leader of the Cutie Pie Club, has held the belt since Shine 49. “Super” Aja Perera is flying in for another battle in Shine. She’s had one busy cape too, appearing in promotions like CHIKARA, Queens of Combat and more. It will have to be seen if the rest of the Cutie Pie Club will try to assist their leader Candy again. Aja has tangled with Kiera Hogan and Dementia D’Rose before. However, a three-on-one situation is difficult for anyone to overcome. Perhaps Perera will enlist some of her super friends to keep the Cutie Pie Club at bay.
Shine Tag Team Championship: Twisted Sisterz (Holidead & Thunder Rosa) (c) vs. Las Sicarias (Ivelisse & Mercedes Martinez)
The Shine Tag Team titles will also be defended at Shine 54. This will be a return match from Shine 52. There the Twisted Sisterz upset Las Sicarias to win the Shine Tag Team Championship. Ivelisse and Mercedes Martinez had held the titles for over 400 days, having won them at Shine 42. Both teams work very well together and this should be a very good tag team match.
Thunder Rosa and Ivelisse are no strangers to each other. Both play major characters in Lucha Underground. Holidead is making waves as well having recently debuted in SHIMMER and WOW. Mercedes has been on fire, taking part in her second Mae Young Classic and becoming the Phoenix of RiSE Champion. Both members of Las Sicarias were unsuccessful in the Shine Championship tournament. They would surely love nothing more than to regain the Tag Team Championship. The Twisted Sisterz won’t just roll over and give the titles up without a fight though.
Shine Championship Match: Allysin Kay (c) vs. LuFisto
This will be Allysin Kay’s first defense of the Shine Championship after winning it at Shine 53. This is LuFisto’s first event back at Shine following her vacation of the title in June. She now gets a chance as the challenger, a role she hasn’t been in since January of 2017. Allysin was also involved in the triple threat match at Shine 40, the match where LuFisto won the title. Kay got a shot at LuFisto when she was champion at Shine 43, which ended via disqualification.
2018 has been the year of redemption for Allysin Kay. Having been sidelined for most of the year, she came back with a bang at Shine. She also took part in the Mae Young Classic and everyone is talking about the AK47. Another name on everyone’s lips is LuFisto. She recently showed a darker side at the latest SHIMMER tapings. Will she be good, smiling fairy godmother of wrestling? Or will she be the evil witch, hell-bent on taking back the title she never lost?
Poetically, we have come full circle with the roles reversed. Allysin who had been chasing the title for so long is now the chased. LuFisto, who had been the chased for so long, now finds herself chasing. This is going to be a can’t miss match going down at Shine 54.
In addition to all the amazing matches listed above, there are several names also advertised to appear. Brandi Lauren, with Jenna, Kiera Hogan, Dementia D’Rose, Jordynne Grace, Dynamite DiDi, Luscious Latasha, Gabby Gilbert, Lea Nox, and Violet Payne are all scheduled for Shine 54. Shine is always a fun time, and if you can’t make it out to Ybor City there are plenty of options to view it.
