Atsushi Onita Returns to Wrestling at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3

Legendary Japanese wrestler Atsushi Onita, who founded the fabled Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW) promotion and pioneered deathmatch wrestling, retired last October from professional wrestling following a 43-year career that began in 1974. A 3x NWA International Junior Heavyweight Champion in All Japan, 3x Tag Team Champion in Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) in Memphis, and 7x FMW Brass Knuckles Champion, Onita blazed a trail of blood, destruction and exploding barbed wire matches throughout his lengthy career. He wrestled his final match last Halloween at Korakeun Hall in Japan. Until today.

Atsushi Onita Returns to Wrestling

Onita made his return to pro wrestling today with Pro Wrestling A TEAM, a promotion founded in 2016 by former FMW and ZERO1 star Tetsuhiro Kuroda and former Apache Pro star HASEGAWA. But that wasn’t all. Onita was also revealed as the latest Japanese legend to be announced for one of Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) Joey Janela series, as the first announced name for Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3 in New Jersey next year during WrestleMania week as part of GCW’s Collective shows. Onita joins past puroresu legends like The Great Sasuke and Jinsei Shinzaki (aka Hakushi in the WWE) on Janela’s cards.

It was also revealed in an article in Tokyo Sports today, that Onita is also making his UK debut shortly as well, although no further details have been given. Onita returned to the US last year for a hyped match against Matt Tremont with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), although many feel the match failed to meet expectations (with many complaints directed at CZW more specifically for its booking of the match itself).
