Match Point is an on-going series at Last Word on Pro Wrestling, where we look at intriguing matchups in indie wrestling and beyond. They may be dream matches, first-time matchups, or hotly anticipated rematches. Today’s edition focuses on an intergender match of epic proportions that was teased at All In. It will be “Thick Momma Pump” Jordynne Grace taking on “The Machine” Brian Cage for the first time, at Beyond Wrestling’s “Somebody’s Farewell Probably…” on September 16, 2018.
On September 1, during the All In Zero Hour Over Budget Battle Royal, fans were treated to a one-on-one sequence between Jordynne Grace and Brian Cage. Grace, the only female in the event, was not afraid to step up to any of the guys, much as she hasn’t been her entire career.
Just 22, Jordynne Grace has been wrestling since she was 15 and over those seven years, has established herself as one of the best, regardless of gender. Known as the “Last Pure Athlete,” Grace has been wrestling both men and women throughout her career. A true proponent of the intergender style, Grace currently holds a heavyweight championship, of which she is the first woman to do so. In fairness, Grace is just the second person overall to hold the Black Label Pro Heavyweight Championship, but during her title reign, she has faced both men and women, including Ethan Page, who also took part in the Zero Hour battle royal.

But this is about another male competitor, one who is known for his intergender work as well, in Brian Cage. Cage’s approach to intergender wrestling has always been simple. Whether its a man or a woman, he’s going to go to the ring and beat his opponent to the mat for the 1-2-3. In short, Cage is an equal opportunity ass-kicker.
Both Cage and Grace have become big names in the intergender scene, but not until this Sunday will they face each other one-on-one for the first time. In fact, All In was the first time the two were in a ring together period, and it certainly lived up to expectations.

Jordynne Grace, who can bench press 170 pounds and squat 225, showed off that power at All In when she set a new personal best, squatting the 268-pound frame of Brian Cage. Their interaction also included Grace hitting Cage with a running powerbomb before eliminating him from the battle royal.
Beyond Wrestling, a well known supporter of intergender wrestling, has played host to some of the best intergender matches out there. They also were bold enough to put on a card of 11 intergender matches on the Thursday of Wrestlemania Week last year. The fully intergender card, Lit Up, was a first of its kind and it featured Jordynne Grace teaming up with LuFisto to take on, and defeat, LAX (Ortiz and Santana), along with 10 other stellar bouts.
“Some of the best matches I’ve seen have been between men and women,” Grace said in an interview in 2016. “I prefer wrestling men over women as it normally makes for a better match in general, as I think most women would agree.”

Sunday’s first of its kind match between Jordynne Grace and Brian Cage will be a great showcase of intergender wrestling between two wrestlers who are more than familiar with the style. Cage and Tessa Blanchard had one of the most well regarded intergender matches of recent memory when they clashed over titles in WrestleCircus. While no championship is on the line here, this match could be even better. While Cage is obviously the bigger person in this match, Grace will give him everything he gives her and more. She brings power, athleticism and strength to this match. When it comes to the tale of the tape, these two couldn’t be more evenly matched.
