On a recent episode of his podcast, Tuesday Night Jaw, PROGRESS owner Jim Smallman hinted to Flash Morgan Webster that he may have a role with the upcoming new WWE brand, NXT UK. In conversation with Flash, who recently debuted with the WWE, first on 205 Live and then as part of this year’s United Kingdom Championship tournament after signing a WWE UK contract, Jim Smallman stated “while I can’t really say, well you (Flash) and I are seeing a lot of one another”. He then stated “for those working it out, based on things going on in the UK right now, there are reasons I was able to leave standup”.
PROGRESS has become the UK’s premier wrestling promotion in the past few years, after being founded by Smallman, a stand-up comedian, back in 2011. Since then, it’s emerged as the leading talent pool of UK talent, alongside other promotions like RevPro, ICW, Defiant Wrestling, OTT, IPW:UK, and Pro Wrestling EVE, with many PROGRESS stars migrating to the WWE, such as Pete Dunne, Moustache Mountain, Mark Andrews, Toni Storm and others.
While details of what his involvement could be, it’s most likely in a consulting role similar to what EVOLVE‘s Gabe Sapolsky has with NXT in Orlando, although until it’s officially announced by the WWE themselves we have no real idea on the extent of his involvement.
