He’s one of the most reviled storylines in the history of pro wrestling – Hollywood actor David Arquette coming to World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2000 (as part of the promotion for the WCW produced comedy, Ready To Rumble, starring Arquette) and winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Thankfully, his reign and tenure was brief, but it’s forever left a sour taste in wrestling purists’ mouths.
He managed to stay away from pro wrestling for a decade, until he made a return, this time with the WWE, when he joined with Alex Riley to face Randy Orton in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match on Raw in 2010.
Following this one off, Arquette once again disappeared from the world of pro wrestling. But this year, that all changed.
On May 31, he was a special guest on the Wendy Williams Show, where he announced he was making a return to professional wrestling.

This past spring, David Arquette showed up at WrestleCon over WrestleMania weekend, and went to the Wrestling Revolver, AAW and Fight Club: PRO co-production, Pancakes & Piledrivers, where he interfered in a tag team match with The Besties In The World. It appeared that his announcement was actually true.

Two weeks ago, he appeared again, this time with Championship Wrestling From Hollywood (CWFH), where he entered a scramble match at Peter & Ray’s Surprise! Birthday Party Wrestling Show on June 14 in South Gate, California.
But CWFH has now made it official – on July 15, David Arquette will have his first singles match since May 1 of 2000, when he defeated former UFC star Tank Abbott. And he’s facing Canadian indie star RJ City, which was born out of a feud on Twitter.
I’ve got a great gimmick for @DavidArquette: a burnt out actor. https://t.co/P2xtb2a9fp

Somehow this feels a lot more fun than his WCW run, and he’s working with some fun talents to showcase Arquette’s comedic tendencies. Toronto’s RJ City, a regular with Tommy Dreamer‘s House of Hardcore, Buffalo’s Empire State Wrestling (ESW), Pennsylvania’s International Wrestling Cartel (IWC), and home promotions like Destiny World Wrestling (DWW) and Superkick’D. The emerging Canadian indie star has also been featured in a few episodes of Impact Wrestling. City has also developed a strong Twitter following with his comedic posts, including a running series of “Making Coffee in his Underwear” – he’s like the Canadian Chuck Taylor. Working with Arquette is a recipe for some comedy magic.
It’s just like wrestling, but without all that stupid wrestling shit.
