Last year at WrestleMania week in Orlando, Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) handed over the reigns to Joey Janela to run his own event, resulting in the cult classic event, Joey Janela’s Spring Break. The breakout event of the week, it came out of nowhere with random but stellar match ups like Matt Riddle vs. Dan “The Beast” Severn, Joey Janela vs. Marty Jannetty, Keith Lee vs. Lio Rush, and more. This year in New Orleans saw a sequel event, which saw a bigger crowd attend for another amazing event, featuring Joey Janela vs. Great Sasuke and the now legendary battle between PCO and WALTER, that helped propel PCO’s current comeback.
It comes at no surprise that GCW has once again opted to give Janela the books once again, this time for a summer event entitled Joey Janela’s Lost In New York, running August 17 in New York City. And once again, Janela is booking some great dream matches that have the potential to be the most talked about matches of the year. So far only two matches have been announced, but boy, are they doozies.
MATT RIDDLE vs. PCO
This match was originally booked for June 1 in New York for Impact Championship Wrestling (ICW New York), but unfortunately the event had to be cancelled. Janela has rebooked it for Lost In New York, bringing back the dream to see the brutal warrior PCO take on legitimate tough guy (and former UFC fighter) Matt Riddle in what should be a heavy hitting affair, complete with technical wrestling and some big moments.
NICK GAGE vs. MENG
Janela has booked another inter-generational match-up, this time pitting one of the dangerous men of this generation, GCW Champion and hardcore icon Nick Gage, against a man that many consider one of the toughest men to ever set foot in the pro wrestling industry, former WWE and WCW Legend Meng (aka Haku). With Haku recently announced to be competing at the NJPW G1 Special from San Francisco (he’s teaming with his sons, Guerrillas of Destiny, as part of the Bullet Club team with Yojiri Takahashi and Chase Owens against CHAOS‘ team of the Roppongi 3K trio of SHO, YOH and Rocky Romero, Gedo, and YOSHI-HASHI), another high profile match up could see another Joey Janela event help jump start a comeback for another legendary figure from pro wrestling’s past.
More announcements for Lost In New York are expected over the coming days and weeks.
