This Friday, Impact Wrestling‘s One Night Only series returns to the GWN (Global Wrestling Network) App with Zero Fear, a special event co-produced with Destiny World Wrestling (DWW) in Mississauga, Ontario (just outside Toronto). Impact has partnered with DWW before, hosting the Twitch special Last Chancery back in March. Here’s a (non-spoiler) preview of the event, that was pre-taped last week on June 3, 2018 at the Don Kolov Arena.
X-Division Championship Match: Matt Sydal (c) vs. Dezmond Xavier
Since opening his “third eye”, high flying Matt Sydal has conquered the Impact X-Division, winning the X-Division title from NJPW Best of the Super Juniors finalist (and newest Bullet Club member) Taiji Ishimori back in August on the Crossroads special. Since then, he’s defended his belt against the likes of Eddie Edwards, Petey Williams, El Hijo del Fantasma and even Brian Pillman Jr. (at an Imperial Wrestling Revolution (IWR) show in Kansas), continuing to come out on top. On Friday, he puts the belt on the line against one of the indie scenes emerging superstars, Dezmond Xavier, who has gained national notoriety, first as part of the tag team Scarlet & Graves with Zachary Wentz, and currently as part of the stable The Rascalz (alongside Wentz, Trey Miguel and Myron Reed). Xavier is no stranger to Impact or the X-Division though, having been an Impact regular for over a year now, including winning the 2017 Super-X Cup. Count on this to be an athletic showcase and a tough fight for both men.
The Desi Hit Squad (Rohit Raju & Gursinder Singh) w/ Gama Singh vs. Dustin Quicksilver & Aiden Prince
Indo-Canadian wrestling legend Gama Singh (a huge star for Stampede Wrestling in the 1970s and 1980s) brings his two boys from Desi Hit Squad, Rohit Raju and Gursinder Singh, into action, this time against a couple of emerging Canadian indie talents. Dustin Quicksilver is a product of Santino Marella‘s Battle Arts Academy and a regular with both DWW and Windsor’s Border City Wrestling (BCW). He’s pairing with ultra high flyer Aiden Prince, a BCW product from Windsor, Ontario who also works for Smash Wrestling amongst others.
Madison Rayne vs. KC Spinelli
Madison Rayne made her return to Impact recently on commentary, but a growing feud with new Knockout Tessa Blanchard has forced her hand in returning to the ring. She looks to continue back as a wrestler and on Friday she’ll step in the ring with another of the newer Knockouts in the division, Canadian indie grappler KC Spinelli. Spinelli is a rough and tumble brawler who would surely love to make a move in the Knockouts standings with a win over the former 5x Knockouts Champion.
Fallah Bah & Stone Rockwell vs. The Fraternity (Channing Decker & Trent Gibson)
Two unlikely Impact heroes pair up for the first time as Fallah Bah teams up with wrestling’s first true adventure hero, Stone Rockwell, against the tag team The Fraternity. Rockwell became somewhat of a viral cult hero following his appearance on the One Night Only: March Breakdown back in March and he’s also appeared on Xplosion. The two new heroes face a young and hungry tag team that are making their way through the North American indies – they’re currently the reigning and 3x Tag Team Champions with Pennsylvania’s International Wrestling Cartel (IWC). A win for the young duo could help push them into Impact’s tag team division.
Trevor Lee vs. Eddie Edwards
Trevor Lee is a brave man. Eddie Edwards has become a deranged lunatic following his intense blood feud with Sami Callihan the past few months and now the leader of The Cult of Lee goes in to face Edwards one on one, just over a week from his encounter with Callihan in the woods. On a normal day, this could be an absolute technical and aerial classic. But under current circumstances, this will most likely be what Jim Ross would call “an absolute slobberknocker”.
Knockouts Championship Match: Su Yung (c) vs. Katarina
The new Knockouts Champion Su Yung will make her first Knockouts title defence this Friday night as she takes on a returning Katarina. While the name may not sound familiar, she’s better known to Impact fans as former 2x Knockouts Champion Winter (or her WWE stint as Katie Lea Burchill). Katarina has recently made her return to Impact, alongside her new “beau” Grado and she’s worked her way back up the ranks of the Impact Knockouts division. But “The Undead Bride” won’t be going into her first title defence lightly. And after Su Yung took out both Rosemary and Allie in the past weeks, Katarina may have her work cut out for her.
Sami Callihan vs. “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander
Canada’s Josh Alexander is a violent man, but this Friday he steps in the ring with a certified mad man in Sami Callihan, who has proved in the past year in his battles alongside oVe (Jake & Dave Crist) against the likes of LAX and Eddie Edwards, that nothing is off limits for Callihan. Alexander has wrestled all over North America in his over 10 year career, often as one half of the tag team Monster Mafia with “All Ego” Ethan Page, who together won the PWG World Tag Team titles back in 2015, as well as stints with the likes of Ring of Honor, EVOLVE, All American Wrestling (AAW) and several other top promotions. But after his defeat to Eddie Edwards this past week on Impact Wrestling in an unsanctioned fight in the woods, Callihan will be out for blood. And poor Alexander just may be the latest victim to the self professed “most dangerous man in wrestling”.
Impact World Championship Match: Austin Aries (c) vs. Rich Swann
Rich Swann makes his Impact broadcast debut this Friday night, stepping into a World Championship opportunity against newly crowned 3x Impact World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries. Swann recently made his return to wrestling with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and was also part of the Impact co-production with Pro Wrestling Revolver (PWR) on Twitch, Penta Does Iowa (where he won the PWR Scramble Championship), before it was announced Swann had signed with Impact. Swann is hungry to prove he has more in him than just what we saw during his time with WWE’s 205 Live and NXT and he’s starting off at the top against “The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived”.
Triple Threat Match: Pentagon Jr. vs. Moose vs. Eli Drake
As Austin Aries faces off against Rich Swann, the main event will feature three men who are arguably the top three contenders for Aries World title, as “Mr. Impact” Moose squares off against two former Impact World Champions, Eli Drake and Pentagon Jr. Pentagon Jr. has become an instant superstar with Impact Wrestling and Eli Drake continues to maintain his positioning on Impact’s roster by hook or by crook. Moose is ready to rage and it’s only a matter of time before his sights are finally locked on Austin Aries – he’ll be looking to make a main event impression in the main event.
Impact Wrestling’s One Night Only: Zero Fear will air exclusively on the GWN App this Friday at 8pm EST.
