Franky TM Relinquishes Smash Championship, Leaves Promotion

Toronto’s Smash Wrestling has become Canada’s premier indie promotion the past few years, with iconic indie dream matches and the promotion of Canadian born talent. Earlier this year, at January’s Any Given Sunday 6, Smash Champion Tyson Dux saw his 435 day reign as Smash’s champion come to a halt, when he ran into indie veteran “The Beast King” Franky TM (aka Franky The Mobster), a 20+ year veteran of multiple Canadian (primarily Quebec) indie promotions, as well as appearing with the likes of CZW (where he’s a former CZW Iron Man Champion) and PWG. Franky TM emerged that night with a new faction, Malice, that featured Vanessa Kraven and former PWG World Tag Team Champions The Super Smash Bros (Evil UNO & Stu Grayson). But as of today, Franky’s 142-day reign has come to an end, as has his working agreement with Smash Wrestling, as announced by Smash Wrestling themselves.

The “circumstances” that are currently going on that have resulted in the separation and abdication of Smash’s top title go back to an incident on June 22, 2016, when local police raided the home of Franky TM – real name Marc-André Boulanger – in the North Shore of his native Montreal, Quebec. The police seized narcotics (specifically MDMA) and steroids and Franky TM was charged with possession of drugs and steroids with the intent of trafficking. Defence lawyers had hoped to prove that the warrant was invalid and have the evidence stricken from the impending trial, but on June 1 of this year, Judge Marc-André Dagenais ruled the warrant and evidence would stand, with the trial now getting ready to start, according to the latest report from Le Journal de Montréal. With a trial about to go under way, it would appear that both Smash and Franky TM have mutually agreed to part ways so that he can focus on his trial.

According to the report in Le Journal, during the 2016 investigation, they had pinpointed an operation working out of a convenience store in Laval, Quebec, and arrested one man, Samuel Beaudry, who was sentenced to 10 months in jail for trafficking after pleading guilty. The police found boxes of drugs on Beaudry’s premises that had been addressed to Franky TM’s real name, which lead to Franky TM’s initial indictment.

It should be noted that Franky TM has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
