Last night at the Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, Major League Wrestling (MLW) crowned their first tag team champions since 2004 in a triple elimination match that saw The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeat Team TBD (Jason Cade & Wheeler YUTA) and The Dirty Blondes (Leo Brien & Mike Patrick), who were accompanied by their manager, former WCW Superstar Col. Robert Parker (for those who haven’t watched MLW Fusion yet because they don’t have access to BeIN Sports, fear not – they upload each episode the following week to the BeIN USA YouTube Channel)

MLW hasn’t had tag team champions since their first run, with the inaugural and last champions being The Extreme Horsemen duo of former ECW Originals, Simon Diamond and CW Anderson. The titles had remained vacant, even after MLW started back up last year, but the company first had to crown it’s new World Heavyweight Champion, Shane Strickland. The match was filmed for an upcoming episode of MLW Fusion on BeIN Sports.

It should be noted that in MLW, The Lucha Brothers go by Penta El 0M and Rey Fenix, as opposed to the Pentagon Jr and Fenix names they use while in Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling, AAA and CMLL. Following their victory, they treated the fans at ringside to some tequila.

Since departing AAA last year, the two brothers have seen their stock rise considerably on the North American and international independent circuits, where they duo have won the PWG World Tag Team Championship and the Wrestling Alliance Revolution (WAR) Tag Team titles in Ecuador together. On a singles note, Pentagon Jr. is also a 2x PCW ULTRA Heavyweight Champion, former Impact World Heavyweight Champion, AAW Heavyweight and Heritage Champion since departing, while his brother Fenix has won the AAW Heavyweight Championship, The Crash Cruiserweight Championship, Rockstar Pro American Luchacore Championship and the AAW Tag Team titles alongside AR Fox.
