#AndNEW: Kimber Lee Wins AAW Women’s Championship

Last night in the main event at AAW Take No Prisoners in Chicago, Kimber Lee defeated Jessicka Havok to become the new AAW Women’s Champion, ending Havok’s 174-day reign as champion.

It marked Kimber Lee’s first title win since departing from the WWE earlier this year, where she’d spent the past two years in the NXT system under the name Abbey Laith. While a workhorse on the NXT Live Event circuit, and a strong showing at last summer’s Mae Young Classic (where she made the quarter finals before ultimately losing to Mercedes Martinez), she never made NXT television as a regular before her release this past March. While it’s her first title win, she’s competed for several titles since her return to the indie circuit in April, including unsuccessful attempts for the Fight Club: PRO Championship in a triple threat against champion Meiko Satomura and Jessicka Havok, against SHIMMER Champion Nicole Savoy at SHIMMER 104, and against SHINE Champion LuFisto at SHINE 50. Just last week she faced Queens of Combat (QOC) Champion Su Yung in a losing effort at QOC Royalty Returns. The AAW Women’s Championship is her first championship since her reign as Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW) Women’s Champion in 2016.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Kimber Lee moved to Philadelphia and joined the Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) Wrestling Academy, trained by Drew Gulak, and became the first woman to graduate the school in 2011. Over the next few years, she became a regular competitor with CHIKARA, CZW, SHIMMER, SHINE and many other promotions, both as a successful singles competitor (she became the first woman to win the top major singles championship usually reserved for men when she won the CHIKARA Grand Championship in 2015) as well as a solid tag team specialist, most notably with Impact Knockouts Champion Allie (then known as Cherry Bomb) in The Kimber Bombs, winning both the SHIMMER and SHINE Tag Team Championships. It was The Kimber Bombs feud with Courtney Rush in both SHIMMER and Smash Wrestling that lead to Rush’s transformation into Rosemary.
