During Saturday’s No Regrets iPPV, Defiant Wrestling commentator Dave Bradshaw revealed that Travis Banks, Zack Sabre Jr. and WALTER will collide in a Triple Threat Match in Sheffield on Monday, May 28th at Road to Destruction. The winner will be crowned the Undisputed Defiant Internet Champion.
Zack Sabre Jr. won the Defiant Internet Championship from Gabriel Kidd on a September 2017 edition of Loaded. Following successful defences against Extreme Tiger and Mike “Speedball” Bailey, it was announce that Zack would be stepping down as champion due to his contractual obligations overseas. However, he would still be classed as the official champion and was allowed a championship match whenever he returned to Defiant.
In Zack’s absence, an interim champion was crowned as Travis Banks defeated David Starr, Mike Bailey, and Chris Brookes in a Four Way Elimination Match. This marked Travis’ first taste of gold in Defiant since arriving in September 2016.
The first defence for The Kiwi Buzzsaw and his Defiant Internet title was scheduled for March’s Lights Out special against both David Starr and the debuting WALTER, but an ankle injury forced him to pull and change it to a #1 contenders match instead. WALTER came out on top, and also retained his position in a rematch with Starr at The Road to No Regrets with the title match later being added to the No Regrets card.
Unfortunately, the match ended in a draw as Travis pinned WALTER but tapped out to the Gojira Clutch at the same time. Referee John Myers called the match a draw, and so the Triple Threat was made for Road to Destruction on May 28th to determine the true Defiant Internet Champion.
As of writing, Road to Destruction will NOT air live. Expect airing details and further match announcements as we get closer to the date. Fans can still purchase tickets for the event.
