Nixon Newell Makes NXT Debut After One Year Off To Injury

At last night’s NXT Live Event in Venice, Florida, Welsh indie star Nixon Newell finally made her heavily anticipated NXT debut, teaming with Dakota Kai to face Vanessa Borne & Reina Gonzalez. Billed as Steffanie Newell (her real name), it marked almost one year to the date that Newell last performed. One of the early favourites to win the inaugural Mae Young Classic last year when she was an early announcement, a torn ACL sustained shortly after her arrival at the WWE Performance Center last June put her on the shelf for ten months. Her last match was April 30, 2017 against Joey Ryan with IPW:UK for the DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship.

Nixon Newell was one of the UK scene’s most promising young stars when the 22-year old went down to injury at the start of the summer. Debuting in 2013, by 2015, she was working all the top promotions in Europe, including PROGRESS, ICW, Pro Wrestling EVE, OTT, Germany’s wXw, as well as her regular grounds of Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE) and Wales’ ATTACK! (which is owned by Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews). She also worked with Stardom in Japan and SHIMMER in the United States. She’s been wrestling since her teens and came to the WWE as a 3x ATTACK! 24/7 Champion, SWE Queen of Southside and SWE Tag Team Champion, and WCPW (now Defiant) Women’s Champion.

Other wrestlers and personalities began to tweet their support and excitement of Newell’s return to the ring.
