Rey Mysterio Tears Bicep At Indie Show, NJPW Match in Jeopardy

At Northeast Wrestling‘s WrestleFest XXII on Friday night, Rey Mysterio apparently suffered an arm injury in the closing moments of the main event, which saw Mysterio and tag team partner Flip Gordon defeat the team of Joey Mercury and Caleb Konley. According to PWInsider, “the injury has not been confirmed as Mysterio was going to have it examined upon his return home to California.  Mysterio’s arm was a little swollen after the bout, but he was not holding the arm backstage after in a way that was obvious there was a major injury.  We are told Mysterio pretty much rushed to leave the building after the match.” In a posted video on Twitter of the match finish, Mysterio can be seen favoring his arm in several instances.

On Dave Meltzer‘s Wrestling Observer Radio this morning, he mentioned that wrestler’s have often forgone surgery to repair injuries such as this and wrestled through the injury, but if he was to re-sign with the WWE, they usually insist on these type of surgeries. If the injury does require surgery after his consult, it could put Mysterio out of action for up to six months, which would effectively pull him not only from his upcoming NJPW match against Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at Strong Style Evolved in Long Beach, California at the end of this month, but scrap any plans reportedly rumoured for a possible WrestleMania comeback.

Rey Mysterio was reportedly slated to meet with WWE’s Triple H in Stamford, Connecticut on Friday during the day prior to competing for Northeast Wrestling, but Triple H had to cancel last minute to attend a business meeting in the Middle East. We’ll keep you updated on any further announcements concerning the status of Mysterio’s injury.
