Rob Van Dam States Recent Concussion Ends Any WWE Comeback

In a report from The Blast earlier today, it was revealed in recent legal documents filed by Rob Van Dam in his divorce proceedings against his estranged wife Sonya Szatkowski, that due to a recent concussion, he has failed WWE medical testings and will no longer be able to make any further comebacks with the company. RVD’s wife of 18 years filed for divorce last May, after separating in December of 2015, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

The concussion occurred last November in a match against Penta El 0M (formerly Pentagon Jr.) at Pacific Coast Wrestling (PCW)‘s Clear The Way event, where RVD defeated Penta El 0M for the PCW Heavyweight title. The concussion occurred during a spot where he took a chair to the head. RVD claims he failed his WWE medical earlier this year and has been “disqualified…from working for the WWE” as a result of the concussion causing permanent visual impairment. It was also revealed in the documents, filed for alimony purposes, that his merchandising deal with the WWE expired this past July.

Rob Van Dam was one of the 90s biggest indie stars during his tenure with the original ECW from 1996 to 2001, and parlayed that into a main event run with the WWE from 2001 to 2007. He had a one time return for the 2009 Royal Rumble, before heading to Impact Wrestling from 2010 to 2013. He returned to the WWE for one more run in 2013 through 2014, before heading back to the indies. His last matches for the WWE were on August 26, 2014, when he faced Seth Rollins in matches taped for Smackdown and Main Event. He left the WWE as a former WWE World Champion, 6x Intercontinental Champion, and Tag Team Champion amongst others, and added an Impact World Championship and X-Division title during his time in TNA. While in the WWE, he also won his first ECW World Championship, having only captured the ECW Television and 2x World Tag Team Championship titles in his initial ECW career.
