Preview: RevPro/NJPW Global Wars UK Night 1 (11/9/2017)

This coming Tuesday November 9th, Revolution Pro UK (RevPro) teams up with NJPW for Global Wars UK, the British companion event to the ROH-NJPW Global Wars series. Night 1 features a stellar card, that sees Marty Scurll facing Tetsuya Naito, as well as the RevPro Tag Team and Cruiserweight titles being put on the line.

A dream match for many, “The Villain” Marty Scurll is one of the newest members of Bullet Club and has become a member of the Being The Elite cast, the Youtube Channel started by the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. He is one of the greatest technical wrestlers on this world, amongst the likes of Zack Sabre Jr.. Scurll is the current WCPW World champion, a former ROH television champion and a former wXw World Heavyweight champion.

And what is there to say about Tetsuya Naito: a former IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental champion, a 2-time G1 Climax winner and the leader of  Los Ingobernables de Japon. They met before in a Tag team match at Global Wars UK 2016 when Naito & SANADA defeated the LDRS (Zack Sabre Jr. & Marty Scurll). Naito has been getting over with crowds all over the world although he portraits a heel persona.

Prediction: Tetsuya Naito

Tomohiro Ishii vs Keith Lee

Photo: RevPro

Battle of the big men. Keith Lee is one of this years PWG Bola finalists and has become a regular in PWG over the last few months. Despite his size, the agility this man provides is amazing. Lee performs Moonsaults, Sommersaults and Dropkicks on a regular basis. Ishii is known for his pure Strong Style Wrestlng: hard Lariats, Headbutts and a devastating Brainbuster.

Yuji Nagata vs Zack Gibson

Nagata competed in his last G1 Climax this year, it was his 19th overall. At 49 years old he still wrestled high profile matches against names like Tomohiro Ishii, Tetsuya Naito or Hiroshi Tanahashi. It will be truely an honor to see this legend of Pro Wrestling live.

Zack Gibson might be the most hated Englishman in the world. He got the loudest boos i´ve ever heard at OTT Scrappermania III and he is despised by every fan he’s in front of. So this will be the typical hero vs villain story.

Prediction: Yuji Nagata

RevPro UK Tag Team Championship: CCK (Travis Banks & Chris Brookes) (c) vs Rocky Romero & YOSHI – HASHI

Photo: RevPro

A match that could steal the show from the shadows. Romero has been with RevPro for some years now, although he might not be a regular fly-in. HASHI has faced Kenny Omega during the Global Wars tour on October 15th. CCK normally is a 3 piece team, with Kid Lykos in the team. Brookes, Banks and Lykos are the current CZW and PROGESS Tag Team champions and former RevPro Tag champs. Chris brookes recently announced himself for the 16 Carat Gold Tournament 2018. Which now makes him the 4th entrant .Romero is an 8-time IWGP Junior Tag Team champion. This match will be the one of the Tag specialists, which is great when the NJPW Junior Tag Team Tournament is around the corner, where the new team Roppongi 3K (Sho & Yoh) managed by Romero will look to win this tournament.

Prediction: CCK

Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre Jr. Vs Hirooki Goto & Will Ospreay

Photo: RevPro

This will most likely be the Main Event of night 1. The Revolution Pro British Heavyweight champion Zack Sabre Jr. and his Suzuki-Gun leader, the man with the worst personality in the world, Minoru Suzuki will face CHAOS in Sabre´s challenger of night 2, Will Ospreay and his veteran partner Hirooki Goto. Suzuki has competed in the UK before for WCPW and has been working the Global Wars Tour for ROH in October, so he is on an international run at the moment. His MMA influenced style was a pioneer act for new stars like Matt Riddle, who he faces on night 2 in an international Dream Match. Suzuki is putting on great matches at the age of 49 and his partner is the “Technical Wizard”.

Prediction: Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre Jr.

El Desperado vs Matt Riddle

Photo: RevPro

Riddle could be one of the next independant stars that moves to NJPW. As previously mentioned, he has been influenced by his MMA background and most likely by Minoru Suzuki. Riddle is a former WWN champion and has won this years shoot style wrestling tournament at wXw called Ambition. Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado has recently unsuccesfully challenged KUHIDA for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship at the Destruction in Hiroshima show. Interestingly, Desperado has a successful background in Amateur Wrestling, so this could be very exciting if you like some ‘realness’ to your wrestling.

Prediction: Matt Riddle

Toru Yano & Gedo vs Lord Gideon Grey & No Fun Dunne

Photo: RevPro

This match is going to be completely comedy with the opposing styles of Dunne and Yano. Gedo is going to swear during the whole match probably. As an opening match or cool downer before the Main Event this is probably the best way to give the fans a break from the constant action.

Prediction: Yao & Gedo

British Cruiserweight Championship: Josh Bodom (c) vs Ryan Smile vs Bushi

Photo: RevPro

The 8th and last announced Match for the show. The former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Bushi is the only LIJ member who accompanies Tetsuya Naito to London. He went on an excursion to Mexico from 2008-2010 and is working a Lucha Libre influenced style since. Bodom won the title from Will Ospreay at Epic Encounter 2017 (where Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks also appeared, buy the DVD here). He’s since defeated names like Mike “Speedball” Bailey, David Starr and Jushin Thunder Liger. He works as the Heel champion but is clearly a great wrestler as he had super matches with Chris Hero, Tomohiro Ishii and Donovan Dijak in RevPro. His other challenger is the former OTT No Limits Champion Ryan Smile. He has a very diverse moveset consisting of Ricochet-esque high flying and typical British technical expertise. This match will be fast and action packed.

Prediction: Josh Bodom
