Most Underrated WWE Superstars of All Time

After watching Goldust turn on R-Truth, Mr. Monday Night Raw, Ryan Smith was inspired to list his most underrated wwe superstars.

The concept of over and underrated WWE superstars is a bit silly. In a sport where the outcome is predetermined, how can one be underrated? Well it’s simple. Some guys just made it work, even when the company wasn’t behind them. Keep in mind, this is a subjective list, written by a guy in his 20’s. If you want to share your own list in the comment section below, please do!

Most Underrated WWE Superstars of All Time

Goldust

When Goldust turned heel on R-Truth last week, I realized something. While he’s been a goofy comedy character for a couple of years, Goldust is one of the better character wrestlers in WWE history. At one point in time, he was one of the best heels in WWE. Underrated in the ring, and a pioneer on the microphone, Goldust never really gets the respect he deserves.

Mick Foley

Who in the world is more underrated than Cactus Ja-, I mean Dude Lo-, I mean Mank-, I mean Mick Foley? The things he did in the ring should never, ever be recreated by anyone. His Hell in a Cell match with the Undertaker (honorable mention) is iconic, and now that Foley can’t walk, is missing an ear, and had to get hip surgery, it’s time he gets his due.

Especially considering that Foley’s best work wasn’t even as a wrestler. His character work is legendary. He played Cactus Jack, Mankind, Dude Love, and several version of good ol’ Mick Foley, and he played them brilliantly. His promos in ECW and WWE(F) are incredible, and the way he was able to be a scary heel, a sweetheart underdog, and a comedy character is incredible.

Chris Jericho

C’mon. This one is obvious. Chris Jericho is one of the greatest of all time, and he’s never ever gotten his due. He was the WWE’s first Undisputed Champion, but even winning that took 800 run ins, and his title reign was overshadowed by Stephanie McMahon and Triple H‘s feud. He’s always been relegated to the mid-card, even though he’s had great matches with everyone from Shawn Michaels to CM Punk.

Jericho has gone from bratty heel to fun babyface to serious villain to your dad to the gift of Jericho, mark out maaaaaaaan. People talk about Triple H’s ability to transform, but it’s Jericho that had stayed fresh for 25 years by constantly reinventing himself in a unique, creative way. God bless the gift of Jericho, and hopefully he comes back soon.

Christian

The Marty Jannetty of the Attitude Era, Christian never really got his due. Often remembered as Edge‘s sidekick, Christian was no slouch either. He was a good hand in the ring, and always entertaining. People attribute the brilliance of E&C to Edge, but Christian did his part as well. His work with the aforementioned Jericho was hilarious, and his “One More Match” feud with Orton was good, even if terribly booked.

Christian was a main event guy in TNA, and he didn’t look out of place at all. It’s a real shame that WWE never gave the CLB a chance to headline shows. Good on the mic, in the ring, and backstage, Christian is a guy that never gets the respect he deserves.

William Regal

Does anyone mention William Regal when they make their lists of the all-time greats? You hear Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Hulk Hogan, but the Englishman never comes up. Despite the fact that he was fantastic in the ring, and a great character wrestler, he never really got his due. A rumor went around that he was going to be inducted in to the WWE Hall of Fame this year, but it never happened. With his incredible work in front of and behind the camera in NXT, hopefully Regal’s moment in the sun is coming sooner rather than later.
