AAW: Thursday Night Special Preview
AAW returns to Illinois at the Berwyn Eagles Club on May 25th for another stacked night of action and will even be bringing in some new faces. Jack Swagger will have his first match since leaving WWE in the main event. The tag team titles and the AAW title will be on the line and the top young talent will be showcased in the undercard. Joey Janela, Jake Crist, Laredo Kid and Myron Reed are also signed to appear. Will Sami Callihan finally lose the big gold belt? Who will steal the show on Thursday night? Let’s take a look at the card…..
Trey Miguel and Stephen Wolf vs Team Tremendous vs Davey Vega and Alex Daniels
Dan Barry and Bill Carr of Team Tremendous are the most entertaining and popular act of these 3 teams thanks to work in Beyond Wrestling and CZW. Team Tremendous will do power moves and fly while wearing suits, and have fun doing it. You can’t sleep on any one of these competitors even if it may be the shortest match on the show. Miguel and Wolf impress more every time they are in AAW and could be the future of the company. Davey Vega is a fantastic tag team wrestler so Vega and Daniels will be a very exciting team. I would expect lots of funny shenanigans but a clean victory after all the hot tags. Miguel and Wolf’s high flying and speed gives them an edge.
Predicted winners: Trey Miguel and Stephen Wolf.
Colt Cabana vs Trevor Lee
Colt Cabana like to have a good time in the ring but Trevor Lee has changed his attitude towards that mindset. Trevor Lee’s Taylor Swift entrances are no more and he wants the AAW Championship. This could have some comedy elements but “The Carolina Caveman” Trevor Lee wants to be taken seriously and could use the win here. Colt is better than ever after over 15 years of experience so he won’t go down without a fight. Highly likely that Colt gets a great reaction but he may be on the downside of his career. Lee has some of the most innovative offence in the world and will surely use lots of them to win this match.
Predicted winner: Trevor Lee
Keith Lee vs Donovan Dijak
This is going to be a must-see heavyweight rematch if there ever was one. The seventh meeting between Keith Lee and Donovan Dijak and they actually have a match for Evolve this month as well. “Limitless” Lee always seems to have Dijak’s number but it could be a different outcome this time. Both have the strength but endurance will be the true test. Lately Keith Lee has had trouble with smaller opponents. Lee is going to have to be ready for a fight. Dijak excels at springboards for a man his size. It is evident both are poised for main events and this rivalry helps their careers tenfold. Lee will make Dijak Bask In His Glory but will possibly Feast His Eyes for the 3 count.
Predicted winner: Donovan Dijak
AAW title match: Sami Callihan vs Juventud Geurrera
Callihan has been one of the best champions in any promotion, holding the AAW World title for 8 months and counting. Low Ki, Candice LaRae, Drago, ACH and others have tried and failed to defeat The Callihan Death Machine. Hardcore Holly announced he has the next AAW title shot in August after defeating Mil Muertes so he will be taking on the winner. With the help from Ohio Is For Killers (Dave Crist, Jake Crist and manager JT Davidson), Callihan could still walk away in one piece. A surprise would be very unexpected but Jeventud is a veteran. Geurrera has recently been travelling to the States for more dates and this is certainly a very intersting match. Callihan like to brawl and Juventud likes to fly. I would expect maybe one of AAW’s all-time best matches. Callihan has been retaining the title on his own recently so don’t see him losing the title.
- Predicted winner: Sami Callihan retains the AAW title.
AAW Tag Team Title Match: Shane Strickland and Lio Rush vs AR Fox and Rey Fenix (Champions)
A tag team match between some of the best high-flyers in the world and in AAW there are almost no rules. Things will break down early and they will do what they do best, and that’s wrestle at a pace quicker than the commentators can call. Rey Fenix and AR Fox just won the AAW tag team titles but they are already an explosive, hardcore tag team. All 4 are known for doing moves that looks like it could cause serious injury, this is going to be very high-risk. Rush and Strickland have teamed together but are not a regular team, but that doesn’t mean they have no chance. This looks like a big win for Rey Fenix and Shane Strickland in an athletic showcase.
Predicted winners: AR Fox and Rey Fenix retain the AAW tag team titles.
Jack Swagger vs Michael Elgin
This has been highly anticipated for many reasons when AAW revealed Jack Swagger would be having his first match on the independents for them. Swagger seemed unmotivated upon his WWE release and this could very well be his new lease on life. With an amateur background and being a former World heavyweight champion, Swagger has all the tools to be a star anywhere he goes and this is his first shot. Big Mike spends his time in many companies and this main event match will get even more people talking about Elgin. A hoss match is to be expected but will Swagger be able to outmuscle or even defeat Elgin. The potential is there for a great match and either man deserves to win the match. Both use a powerbomb but we could see a huge win for Swagger to turn his career around.
Predicted winner: Jack Swagger
