A WWE Whodunnit 2: Who is La Luchadora?

Just as we solved the first WWE Whodunnit of who actually attacked Nikki Bella at Survivor Series ’16 (it was Natalya), we get a new one last night on Smackdown Live when La Luchadora came down to intervene in the Smackdown Women’s Championship match between Champion Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch.

Now normally, this kind of interference wouldn’t classify as a Whodunnit, but the issue is this. Up until the moment La Luchadora came running down to the ring last night, everyone knew she was Becky Lynch. The previous week on Smackdown Live, Lynch tricked Bliss into a match as the masked luchadore and revealed herself to be the masked mystery after she beat Bliss in the ring.

But this time, La Luchadora stormed the ring and distracted Lynch, who obviously was more confused than anyone at seeing her own prank alter ego at ringside. As Lynch attempted to unmask the imposter, Bliss took advantage and got the win, effectively erasing Lynch’s rematch clause for the Women’s title.

Post-match, Alexa Bliss alluded that perhaps it was Nia Jax, but it’s safe to say that size issue alone, she is probably the least likely candidate to be under the pink mask. So the question remains:

Who Is La Luchadora?

The social media went crazy following the match, with theories and speculations running rampant on who could be targeting Becky Lynch and costing her the chance to regain the Women’s title. Was the run-in to help Alexa or was it more of a singular attack on Becky for other reasons? Size alone rules out Nia Jax (not to mention she’s on Raw, not Smackdown), and the skin of her hands shows she’s lighter skin than Naomi. But who else could it possibly be?

Here’s a look at some suspects in the latest WWE Whodunnit.

Carmella

She’s just come out of a feud with one of Smackdown Live‘s biggest names, Nikki Bella. Yes, she’s begun a creepy thing with James Ellsworth, but that’s not a ring story. Perhaps Carmella is continuing to take out the bigger names on the roster in hopes to make her mark, and although she’s not the Champion anymore, Becky Lynch is still arguably the biggest name on the women’s Blue brand. This would be a start at getting under Lynch’s skin, with the whole Ellsworth angle merely a distraction from her true plans.

Tamina Snuka

It’s been some time since we last saw Tamina on television – not since the April 19, 2016 Smackdown from the UK, where her and Naomi lost to Natalya and Paige. She’s been out nursing an injury and is reportedly now cleared to return. Tamina had her share of run-ins with Lynch back when the Revolution began last year, when Tamina was the muscle for Naomi and Sasha Banks in Team BAD, and Lynch was a member of PCB with Paige and Charlotte. With Banks over on Raw and Naomi now face, Tamina could still have a score to settle from before she left.

Deonna Purrazzo

Do we know for sure that Becky Lynch was the intended target? Perhaps La Luchadora was there to distract Alexa Bliss and she only fought back with Becky Lynch because she attacked her first. Maybe it’s Deonna Purrazzo under the mask and she was coming down to throw a wrench in Bliss’ plans (although backfiringly so) because of Bliss’ slight on her a few weeks back on Smackdown Live (when Bliss referred to her as Jane Ellsworth). Purrazzo has worked NXT events over the past year, not to mention appearing for Ring of Honor, TNA, and various other top indies. Or perhaps Lynch was her target. After all, Lynch hardly defended Deonna, she merely took her spot in the match instead. Maybe she wants to prove that she’s more than a plain Jane.

Eva Marie

Eva Marie has been absent since August, partially due to a Wellness Policy violation and suspension, and also due to filming commitments for a couple WWE films. She’s due back any day now as well, so taking out Becky Lynch would be a huge step in her return to the company to assume the mantle she will undoubtedly have by the spring – the Blue Brand’s top female heel.

Mickie James

Everyone knows by now Mickie James has re-signed with the WWE after a six year absence. She returned for a one-off versus NXT Women’s Champion Asuka at Survivor Series ’16 and showed she still had what it takes in the ring. Could James’ imminent debut be underway? Could she be targeting the former Women’s Champion as her first test of wills upon her first feud on the WWE main roster since 2010?
