Josh Allen Helps the Oishei Children’s Hospital Donations Top $500,000, Bills Mafia Still Doesn’t Stop

Last week, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen played with a heavy heart. His grandmother, Patricia Allen passed away at the age of 80. Allen decided to play football the next day in her honor, coming out victorious against the Seattle Seahawks. It was a career day for Allen, who completed 31 of 38 passes for 415 yards and three touchdowns. He also added another rushing touchdown. Allen gave Bills Mafia a win that day. And Bills Mafia gave even more back.

Josh Allen Chips in $17,000 to Help the Oishei Children’s Hospital Fund Top $500,000 – Bills Mafia Isn’t Satisfied

Fans that heard the news started a donation fund in Patricia Allen’s name to Oishei Children’s Hospital. The most common donation? $17 in honor of the number her grandson wears on the field. Despite the relatively humble number of the average donation, the fund quickly grew. By the Monday following the game, it had already reached $250,000.

Allen makes regular visits to the Oishei’s Children Hospital in Buffalo. It is a place that helps some of the minds and bodies of many children in the city Allen gives his body for. Friday night, the hospital announced that it had made it to a whopping $483,000. That’s when the man himself stepped in. Allen tweeted that he would contribute $17,000 to get the fund to the half-million mark.

But Bills Mafia isn’t showing signs of being satisfied. $17 donations continue to roll in. As of midnight Saturday the fund had almost reached $520,000 with almost 25,000 individual donations. As the campaign gains recognition beyond Buffalo, it isn’t unreasonable to think that $1,000,000 could be raised in Grandma Allen’s honor.

Bills fans are known as the “everyman” of the NFL – humble, working-class people. (That is, when they aren’t jumping through tables). The $17 donation not only represents the Allen family, but it is also something that is reasonable for anyone to be able to afford.
