Former Mississippi State quarterback Tommy Stevens is settling in with the New Orleans Saints well. Stevens may have already gained a name for himself as the second Taysom Hill on the team, and his presence surely makes matters interesting for the team. It has people wondering, could Hill and Stevens be a future Saints duo?
Taysom Hill, Tommy Stevens Potentially Forming Dynamic Duo for Saints
The Start of Something New?
The New Orleans Saints are loaded with favorite duos. On offense, they have Drew Brees to Michael Thomas and the running back pair of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray. Defensively, New Orleans boasts the All-Pro front seven tandem of Cameron Jordan and Demario Davis. Could Taysom Hill and Tommy Stevens be the team’s next powerful dyad?
A Foreshadow in the Future
Steven’s change in position answers how the team gets around technically having four quarterbacks on the team. This adjustment could also foreshadow the future. Retirement is around the corner for Drew Brees whether it’s this season, next season or three years down the line. Newly-acquired Jameis Winston is only signed to a one-year deal, which is probably done more for training him where he is lacking as a quarterback in the NFL than making him the next New Orleans Saints signal-caller.
On the other hand, Taysom Hill has the makings of a quarterback, and his flexibility as a player gives a better nod in him being a mobile quarterback. However, a concern with Hill is him getting the starter role at such a late age. There is also the worry of whether he could stay completely healthy for a full season. Nonetheless, Hill has the more favorable edge, and the Saints could be preparing him to take over after Brees and having Stevens as the next Swiss Army Knife for the team.
