If your favorite team is in need of help at the cornerback position, the 2020 NFL Draft is the perfect place for them to find it. While “can’t miss” prospects like Jeffrey Okudah and CJ Henderson are expected to be selected early in the first round, other talented cornerbacks like Auburn’s Javaris Davis may become a quality draft pick as well.
After coming out of high school ranked as a four-star recruit, Javaris Davis turned down offers from schools like Miami, Louisville, and Georgia to sign with Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers, where he would shine as a key piece in their defensive secondary. In 2019, the 5’8”, 183-pound defensive back finished the season with 43 tackles and two interceptions. He also tallied six passes defended during that time period. Those stats were good enough to earn him a trip to both the Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game, a very impressive accomplishment among college football players. After almost leaving college for the NFL last year, Davis has now decided to make the jump and try his luck in the NFL, just like his cousins Vontae and Vernon Davis did.

With impressive closing speed and a high football IQ, Davis can become a quality cornerback for teams looking to increase their squad’s depth at the position. While Davis may never become a starting-level corner in the NFL, he certainly possesses the skill and motor to become a quality backup and solidify himself a roster spot somewhere in the league. If Davis can show improvement in his footwork and coverage abilities, he has the chance to really impress an NFL team. Now, it’s just a matter of finding out who that team may be.
