Davon Hamilton 2020 NFL Draft Profile

Coming out of high school, Davon Hamilton was a three-star recruit before committing to Ohio State. From there, Hamilton would be with the team for five seasons and played in 40 games. After being redshirted his true freshman year, Hamilton first saw the field in nine games during his redshirt freshman season. In his sophomore season, Hamilton posted 4.5 tackles for loss in seven games.

In his junior year, Hamilton was once again in a reserve role with the team; however, in his final year, Hamilton would have a breakout year. During his senior season, Hamilton saw three starts, which were the first of his college career. He also played in all 13 games and recorded career highs with six sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss.

Davon Hamilton never got a large share of the snap percentage during his time at Ohio State. It wasn’t until his senior year where he truly saw a reputable amount of playing time. However, Hamilton was able to prove himself on a defense with lots of talent during his final year. Hamilton went on to be a senior bowl invite and a combine invite as well.

Bottom Line on Davon Hamilton

Davon Hamilton never received a large share of snaps at Ohio State but he can fill a meaningful role right away in the NFL. Hamilton can compete to take reps as a true nose tackle in his first year. Because he’s better in the run game and his best trait is his ability to work against double teams, he fits as a nose tackle better. This will also hide some of his lateral movement issues. Hamilton is also an immensely better run defender than pass rusher at this point in his career; therefore, nose tackle is the best fit.

Hamilton does have upside as a pass rusher though he doesn’t have a great pass rush plan. He does have a good burst off the line of scrimmage for his size. Overall, he shows nice potential in this aspect of his game.

Hamilton can immediately be an impact nose tackle in his rookie season and has enough potential in his pass rush skills to become an every-down player in the years to come. There is an excellent floor with Hamilton as a true 1-tech, and he also shows a solid ceiling with the potential to become an every-down lineman if he can improve upon his pass rush capabilities.
