Miami Dolphins Sign DeVante Parker to Four-Year, $40 Million Extension
Now in his fifth NFL season, Parker has turned his career around and cemented himself in the long-term plans of the Dolphins. He currently ranks fourth in receiving grade (84.7) according to Pro Football Focus. He currently has 55 receptions on the year for 882 yards and six touchdowns.
The move keeps Parker with the Dolphins until 2023. The 6’3″, 216-pound wide receiver was in the final year of his rookie deal. Parker was selected with the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Dolphins.
The Louisville product has certainly established himself as one of the better wide receivers to come out of that school. He finished his college career with 156 receptions for 2775 yards and 33 touchdowns. In 20120, Parker ranked first in the Big East in receiving touchdowns (10) and receiving yards per reception (18.6). He also ranked first in the American Athletic Conference in receiving touchdowns (12) in 2013. He never made an immediate impact coming out college, posting just 26 receptions for 494 yards and three touchdowns his rookie season. Parker has also missed five games throughout the course of his NFL career due to lower-body injuries.
Parker’s new deal comes with the Dolphins preparing for the 2020 offseason, where many individuals expect them to find their franchise quarterback and continue to build the team through free agency and the draft. The Dolphins currently sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 3-10 record. The Dolphins travel to MetLife stadium this Sunday as they’re scheduled to face-off against the 2-11 New York Giants who also sit at the bottom of their division.
