Kwon Alexander is expected to sign a four-year, $54 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers, per multiple reports. His new contract carries $27 million in guarantees and keeps him with the team until 2022. Alexander spent the first four years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kwon Alexander Expected to Sign With San Francisco 49ers
Alexander spent the first four seasons of his career with the Buccaneers and was an impact player on Dirk Koetter’s defense. However, the linebacker’s season was cut short in 2018 after he tore his ACL during Week Seven’s game. Alexander finished the year with 45 tackles, six tackles for loss, two pass deflections and one sack – all career lows.
In 2017, Alexander battled a hamstring injury at the beginning of the season but was able to bounce back and participate in 12 games. He finished the year with 97 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four pass deflections and three interceptions. Alexander was also selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career and joined Gerald McCoy as the only two Bucs to get selected in 2017.
The former LSU Tiger really made a name for himself in the 2016 season. Alexander led the Buccaneers with 145 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception returned for a touchdown. His 108 solo tackles led the NFL that year and he emerged as the team’s top linebacker surpassing his teammate Lavonte David. The two most impressive games of his career took place in 2016 as he recorded 21 tackles against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14 and then 17 tackles against the Atlanta Falcons in Week One.
As a rookie, Alexander made an immediate impact for Tampa Bay’s former coach Lovie Smith. Despite the lack of size, Smith inserted Alexander into the starting middle linebacker position and he flourished recording 93 tackles, six tackles for a loss, three sacks, nine pass deflections, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. The middle linebacker had six games of 10 or more tackle, however, his season was cut short due to a four-game suspension for violating the league’s PED policy.
Alexander was drafted in the fourth round, 124th overall by the Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft after a productive career at LSU.
