Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Justin Forsett Released by the Baltimore Ravens

NFL teams were forced to cut their rosters down to 53 players this weekend, with the season looming . In the wake of the toughest day for the borderline players, many known names can find themselves without a team. One of the bigger moves comes in the form of Justin Forsett being released by the Baltimore Ravens.

Justin Forsett Released by the Baltimore Ravens

The almost 31-year-old running back was heading into his third year with Baltimore. He was presumed to be the starter heading into the week one matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Forsett had started 10 games in 2015 before breaking his arm in week 11. He would miss the rest of the season. Forsett was averaging almost 65 yards per game before going down. Had he finished the year he would have ranked in the top 15 rushers in the league. Forsett scored just twice last year while averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

Justin Forsett had just seven carries this preseason for just 11 yards. This comes out to a 1.6 yards per carry. Forsett, however, had a monster 2014 year finishing 10th in rushing attempts and fifth in rushing yards. He would score eight touchdowns which put him eighth in the league. Age seems to be catching up with him as he doesn’t look like the same back from just two years ago.

Next Man Up

With Forsett gone the Ravens have just two viable options at the running back position. Javorius Allen and Terrance West are competing for touches. West, the former Cleveland Brown, carried the ball 25 times in the preseason. He rushed for 101 yards and scored twice. West is young at just 25 years old. He could potentially be a feature back if he gets an opportunity.

Allen was the lead back last year when Forsett went down. In his rookie year Allen accumulated 514 rushing yards and scored just one touchdown. However, Allen was a big part of the Ravens passing game. He caught 45 passes and scored two receiving touchdowns. Allen is also relatively young. He has gotten the chance to be the lead back in the past. While he didn’t run away with the job, he didn’t fail either.

Kenneth Dixon will also get a shot when he returns from an MCL tear in an estimated four to six weeks.
