Top Midseason Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl Candidates

Top Midseason Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl Candidates: There are several Dallas Cowboys that could be selected for the Pro Bowl. Here are the top three options.

Now that we are about halfway through the regular season, it is time to start considering which players are deserving of the Pro Bowl. For this series, we will look at the three most deserving candidates for each team. Obviously, some teams will have more or less than three players selected to the Pro Bowl, but for simplicity purposes, we will discuss their top three candidates for the honor. Here are the Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl candidates.

Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft back in April. He was expected to be the backup to Tony Romo during the season. However, Romo injured his back in the third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Since then, the Cowboys have been Dak’s team, and he has shown to be an absolute superstar quarterback.

Prescott has only thrown two interceptions through the first seven games. He also does something that Romo can’t – he can run the ball if needed to without the risk of injury. Under Prescott’s control, the Cowboys are 6-1, and they could be 7-0 had wide receiver Terrance Williams run out of bounds in the final seconds in Week One against the New York Giants. Prescott should definitely be considered for 2017 Pro Bowl, and he could possibly be the starter for the NFC.

Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott is the clear cut first nominee for many awards, including Rookie of the Year. Prescott may be right behind him, but Elliott should beat his quarterback out for the honor, and he should also be a top candidate in the NFL for the Pro Bowl. Currently leading the league with 799 rushing yards, Elliott is on pace for 1,826 yards this season.

Even more impressive is the fact that he makes it look easy, too. Elliott cuts through defenses like a knife through hot butter. The former Buckeye has easily found running lanes and has always been able to break into the open. Even the Philadelphia Eagles defense that shut down the Minnesota Vikings offense last week couldn’t stop Elliott. It would be a huge disappointment if he is not selected to the Pro Bowl.

Cole Beasley

Cole Beasley has been Prescott’s favorite target throughout the season, and currently leads the team with 443 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Even with Dez Bryant getting back into the game after missing a few weeks with an injury, Beasley will continue to light it up.

Not only that, but it often seems that Prescott prefers to throw in Beasley’s direction, even with Bryant on the field. If that keeps up, Beasley’s numbers will increase and he will continue to be the leading receiver on the team. While his numbers make him a Pro Bowl candidate for Dallas, his style also makes the case for him. He is a slot receiver who can break into the open and make big plays in the middle of the field.

There are a few players on the Dallas defense that could also be Pro Bowl candidates, but these three players on offense deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve accomplished. If it weren’t for them, especially the two rookies, the Cowboys wouldn’t be sitting at 6-1 on the season with Romo on the sidelines.
