‘We’ll Get to That Over The Next Week or Two’ – Alvin Kamara Trade Rumors: Mickey Loomis Comments Sparks Possible $24M Decision

After a massive shakeup in the running back room, the latest Alvin Kamara trade rumors are brewing this offseason following the comments from New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis. The Saints have not figured out what to do with Kamara’s current deal, but Loomis has created a timeline on what it could look like by next month. Kamara, a former third-round pick, has spent his entire career with the Saints, establishing himself as one of the fastest downhill runners in the league. After a down season last year, the team signed Travis Etienne this offseason to overhaul the RB position.

While Kamara was open to sharing the field with Etienne, it might not happen. The Saints could release him on June 1, as there likely won’t be any trade interest for a 31-year-old running back. Meanwhile, the team has the veteran listed as the backup, and realistically, they will need to move on. Even though Kamara doesn’t envision playing elsewhere, he will have to embrace the new scenery.

“We’re just trying to see how he’s gonna fit on our roster,” Loomis said. “Obviously, there’s a resource management element. We’ll get to that over the next week or two.”

Alvin Kamara Trade Rumors: Mickey Loomis Comments Sparks Possible $24M Decision

While it looks obvious that the Saints are trying to move on, they could ask him to take a paycut. Although Loomis seemed noncommittal to Kamara’s future in New Orleans, the two could get together on some agreement before the 2026 season. However, why waste a healthy, reliable running back like Kamara when you’re rebuilding a new offense for QB Tyler Shough?

The veteran may have said retirement if he gets released or traded, but let’s be realistic. Kamara isn’t going to retire until he’s about 36-years-old. He has something left in the tank compared to Derrick Henry. The veteran is still without a championship and could win one with these three teams.

Possible Next Teams

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs decided to let Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco go in free agency to overhaul their RB room. After signing Kenneth Walker as their starter, the team also selected Emmett Johnson in this year’s draft, who is showing some promise. However, promises won’t win Patrick Mahomes another championship. If the Chiefs are looking to add one more RB, they should consider the Saints veteran.

No one should anticipate that Brashard Smith will get starting reps with the team signing Emari Demecardo this offseason, too. Kamara could work as a true workhorse 1-2 punch behind Walker.

Dallas Cowboys

This could be a fun addition for the Dallas Cowboys. The team didn’t select an RB in this year’s draft, and if they’re interested, they should acquire the veteran RB. Although they’re committed to Javonte Williams, why not supercharge this offense to help Dak Prescott? The quarterback is getting older and would appreciate another worthy talent to join the corps.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, Derrick Henry hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. However, they did let Keaton Mitchell shockingly walk to join a new team. QB Lamar Jackson loves a fast-paced offense, and adding someone like Kamara would be a dream for this offense. They already added speedster WR Ja’Kobi Lane, so bringing in the veteran RB should be fun to help Henry in the red zone.
