Browns Rookie QB Taylen Green In League Of His Own

The Cleveland Browns drafted quarterback Taylen Green out of Arkansas in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. As a prospect, Green impressed many scouts and general managers with his measurables. Green is 6’5, 227 pounds, and runs a 4.36 40-yard dash. Green is athletic and a dual threat, which makes it tough for opposing defenders to deal with.

Browns Rookie QB Taylen Green In A League Of His Own

Green began his college football career at Boise State in 2021 and only appeared in two games his freshman year. Green stayed at Boise State through 2023, throwing for 3,794 yards and 25 touchdowns with 15 interceptions over three seasons (Bowl Game stats included). Green then transferred to Arkansas in 2024 and spent that season, along with 2025, as their starting quarterback, throwing for 5,868 yards and 34 touchdowns to 20 interceptions in two years as a Razorback.

Taylen Green, Unlike Any Other Rookie QB

With Green’s athleticism and speed, he’s different than all of the rookie quarterbacks in the class, based on numbers. It was reported by Grant Gordon of NFL.com, that last week at Browns minicamp, Green spoke about his talent and how much of an anomaly he is when asked by Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot if there was a quarterback he compared his potential in the NFL to, saying,

To be honest, no.” Green went on, stating, “I would say of course Lamar (Jackson), but he ain’t 6’6. Josh Allen is close, but I’m 230. He’s like 260. My dad says Randall Cunningham-ish. I really don’t think there’s anybody like me. Not in a like cocky (sense) or anything, just some confidence. There’s nobody that moves like me, that’s as tall as me.”

Speaking of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Browns’ head coach Todd Monken spoke about Green’s progress throughout minicamp,

“Well, I was lucky enough to get Lamar a lot later in his career, so let’s not. We did some things with Lamar, but he was already further along. But you can see that with Tay. You can see from when he was at Boise to then getting with Bobby Petrino and the guys at Arkansas, he’s come a long way.”

You can see that already and there’s still a next jump that he can make. It’s exciting to have him out here and let him just play through some things. Obviously, this is the time for him to get reps. Once we get into OTAs in another week, that’s really going to diminish. You’re not going to see as much of him because of the numbers, but I’m excited. I’m excited for him. He’s a great kid and everything we’ve heard about him so far has been true.”

Browns Quarterback Room

The Cleveland Browns quarterback room now has Taylen Green, Shedeur Sanders, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, along with Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted in the third round the same year. They also have Deshaun Watson, who they signed back in March of 2022. Now it’s up to the Browns to determine who is going to be the starter. Even if Green doesn’t start, his unique skillset can still be an asset to the Browns.

It’s also still possible that Green could feature toward the end of the season if none of the other quarterbacks have any success. He will have a lot to prove in offseason workouts as well as training camp, but he has proven to embrace the underdog mentality throughout his college career; expect much of the same for his time professionally.
